A souls veteran opinion on Elden Ring after one year
So ER been out more then a year I make a list based on which are the best souls games from fromsoftware: 1.Dark Souls 2
2. Bloodborne
3. Dark souls 1
4. Dark Souls 3
5. Demon Souls
6. Elden Ring
Thats my list as a long time fromsoftware fan.
Elden Ring was too much for me, enormous world, too many bosses (some of them recycled) and overall is just an overwhelming game instead of semi-linear well built world.
I somewhat hope the DLC is going to be linear since it's hard to explore a big world like this all alone. This game had too much from everything, I couldn't decide my builds I had to respec many times, if ER had half of the things that it has now it would be fair enough.
I think I never played a game as big as Elden Ring and probably I will never play a game like this again.
My final words I replayed every other Souls games many many many times, but I dont think im going to touch Elden ring again I might try the DLC when it comes out but that's it.

Souls vet since 2012. I hate souls games. They’re all terrible. Fortnite, now THAT’S a man’s game.

I think using the word Veteran is maybe not the right word since this is used to describe Men and Ladies that fight to Protect your Country from Evil.
You have a World War 2 VETERAN and you have a Demon's Souls veteran.....something to think about.

It’s fine, as an actual veteran I’ll give this thread a pass. 👍

PS I don't think we've seen the best game Fromsoft is capable of, yet. As soon as they make a new ip that is not as similar to Dark Souls as Elden Ring is, we could get another top 3 contender (Sekiro already is way more polished and unique than any of their game every was. Imagine something like this but with rpg elements).
One thing is for sure, Fromsoft only makes good games, no matter in which order one writes the list.

You trippin on some MAD nostalgia goggles if you got DS1 and DeS ranked that high bro lmao

Having played the OG PS3 DeS before DS3, it's one of those games people claim "aged like fine wine" but then you take a sip and realize it's actually really dated and doesn't taste that good anymore.

Atmosphere? Amazing.
Bosses? At best really easy and at worst a terrible gimmick fight.
Levels? Linear and typically filled to the brim with surprisingly annoying enemies, yet also surprisingly devoid of anything meaningful due to the sparse weapon and item selection.
Mechanics? Ancient. Archaic. Unexplained. Exploitable.
Ah yes, because my opinion about how I like these games, must be wrong, because your opinion about these games, is different.
Not sure how you are going to convince me in terms of taste. I played original Demon's Souls later than DS3, so please, feel free to have your opinion, mine is as is.

I don't know. But I would like to know what happened to cause all the destruction? There must be an explanation.

I'm a souls beginner, having only played DS3 and ER. Both games are 9/10's in my opinion. Although ER had a more stylish and expansive adventure, I feel like there was too much repetition and recycling in the late game, especially with regard to all the optional caves and catacombs. I suspect that the feedback FROM Software have received for ER will help them make their next Souls-style product even better than ER.

dark souls 2 ranked #1, opinion invalid

I guess if this is just turned into a list sharing thread I would say mine would be...

#1 Dark Souls 3 (I liked all the weapons and armor, decent character creation, good dlc's and I like the FP magic bar over the X uses of X spells)

#2 Bloodborne (Lot of atmosphere, some great weapons armor and lore, Really interesting bosses and I liked the idea of the chalice dungeons. If only Bloodborne had better coop and build options)

#3 Dark Souls 1 (My first souls game and I played the hell out of it and I try my best to not have rose tinted glasses over it. It suffers from unfinished areas but has some great armor and my favorite weapon in the whole series Silver knight straight sword my beloved why wasnt it in DS3 :( )

#4 Elden Ring (Huge open world with lots of things to fight craft and collect. I love the Spirit ashes that let you play as a summoner, the ashes of war system is great same with the special flask. I think the great rune system needs to be reworked. The biggest issue is I feel like the armor and weapon selection in ER is lacking. for as big as ER is it needed more weapons and armor though the character creation is the best so far.)

#5 Demons Souls (The OG that set off the souls series I haven't played it a ton but enjoyed what I did play. I will say I like the remaster/remake more than the OG but thats just me. I liked the idea of the world tendency though it was odd. )

#6 Dark Souls 2 (Honestly It's not great but its not horrible. Some of the weapons and armor were awesome and same with the spells plus the DLCs were the best of all the souls games but the game is plagued by jank, making I frames tied to Adaptability, the sheer amount of enemies on the map that end up ether forcing you to slowly lure out each foe one at a time or just get ganked plus it felt like the devs made it hard just for the sake of it being hard.)

#7 Sekiro (Not going to lie. The game looks amazing but I hate the spirit emblem system that prevents you from experimenting with your tools, Zero weapon variety, pretty meh story, the rumored dlc never coming out and once I got the hang of the combat it turned into me just standing there. Reflect reflect reflect, Jump slash one or two times repeat.)

Thats like as the kids say, "Just my opinion man" Also the DS1 remake was ass and the Scholar of the first sin edition of DS2 didnt change enough for me to care. It's slightly better and slightly worse then the first DS2.

Well thought out explanations. This should be the answer to the thread as I think more fruitful discussion can come from your critiques and praise of each title.
