Amazing game.. collecting chests is too addicting. Also kinda required to get upgraded gear to get stronger.

Buffing is very important at the start of battles. Once you have them up and enemies debuf

Gearing: Put Evasion, CRIT damage up, Clothes damage reduction, Weapon specific damage up, TP cost down(Viktor), Counter attack crystals in your gear as needed. Upgrade armor, remove crystals, rinse and repeat. Crystal system is kinda meh, so I never bothered to combine crystals past lvl 3 with auto combine until end game. I just used the same crystals every time I upgraded gear. They aren't so important to get past first tier.

Spoilers for allies that will join you. This is what worked for me and I gravitated to for most of the game.

1. Glenn/whoever(Robb mostly), 2. Sienna/Lenne, 3. Balthruz/whoever, 4. Viktor/Amalia. Sometimes I switch to have both Viktor and Amalia out if needed. Glenn and Balthruz/Lenne for DPS almost always

Glenn is great for debuffing enemy, and he is a big DPSer, main character obv strong. His Ultimate I almost always use in every fight if I have to choose. It's just too good. Warrior Emblem.

Sienna not a huge DPSer but applies effects and can do decent damage when needed with high crits. All enemy Blind ability is so good. I put Gambler emblem on her, of course.

Lenne for Cleanse and big elemental damage.

Balthruz: The god. His AOE nuking ability is crazy. Stack magic on him, even crit chance and give him the Magic crit accessory, he can hit as hard as sky armors eventually. His Summon abilitites are so good. Mostly the AOE one, and then later I started using the TP one when needed. Pyromancer Emblem.

Viktor: Buffs, HP regen, TP regen, HP shield(very strong), Revive.. classic support. Cleric Emblem.

Amalia: 100% Revive(very much needed late game), Good healing, Shield, Aura if needed, One of the more useful Ultimates next to Glenn's.

The martial artist is a good DPSer but requires setup, never bothered with birdman or Raphael they seemed gimmicky and unnecessary, but good tanks maybe. Never unlocked Tomkes abilities but I'm sure he's strong. Magnolia seems fun, but never really tried her out much since I had Balthruz/Lenne set up already.

although i only have like, maybe 7-9 skills unlocked, without a doubt Tomke is trash.

I've unlocked all skills on Tomke and he's largely trash, but can be a valuable include as a back row utility member for a few skills.

I'll mention them at their fully leveled power.
Treasure Mark: 10 TP - Resets Overdrive Bar (once per battle)
Yeah, that's the most powerful Overdrive reduction skill. Can be extremely valuable to help you keep up the pressure with your other characters and not have to worry about Overdrive management.
Sailor's Song: 10 TP - Raises Ultra Move Bar by 50% (once per battle)
Sacrifice: 10 TP - Sacrifices user's life to revive all other party members at 50% HP.
Spinach Power: 40 TP - Grants Shield and Aura for 7 turns (all)

As you can see, those are powerful skills, however those are the only things that he really has going for him. And I don't use him in my team, but I can see why someone might.

I think he's best suited to be the back row member for your tank (if you use one), so that if your party gets wiped out, you can scoot him in and sacrifice himself to bring them all back, and to buff the rest of your party so they have better defenses. Also to restore the ultra bar or in an emergency to reset the overdrive bar.

But I don't use a tank, so I don't really need him for that.
Funny. I now use Lenne as the "coat engine".
She uses Fire/Wind/Water/Dark/Light coat skills and Cleanse.
She's there to give the whole team a massive elemental advantage against anything except Earth vulnerable enemies and no-vulnerable enemies, which are a minority.
She served for a long time as the big elemental damage dealer though.
Tomke: is best used as support not a DPS.

Mikah: is god tier for DPS only one who actually beats her damage output is Lenne with Third Eye activated but that requires 2 turns and also heavy/oil/wet etc. She also has a 3 turn silence nobody else has that and its seriously amazing when the enemy wants to spam magic.

Currently Sienna: is God tier for the fact buffing her agility makes her essentially have infinite turns I really hope this is fixed (well agility needs reworking in general) but it even applies vs boss fights they never get a turn. The agility cheese also works for mikah but meh. I used Sienna A LOT as shes my favorite character in this game personality wise and shes best used as a dodge phys tank while also stacking crit and using her move that does more damage based on enemy being paralyzed bit.

I have 100% the game and I can tell you assuming you don't use the boring agility cheese Egyl is absolutely neccasary for the superboss unless you can put darkness on him every turn before he swaps forms he will nuke your party even with you having buffs and him having debuffs.

so Egyl: his gimmick is taking all the phys hits for your party so not everyone is phys nuked. He is good at this even having a full heal as a skill he can just pop. Do you need to use him? for the most part no there are a couple optional bosses hes helpful with and NECESSARY for the superboss so I would recommend him there.

Magnolia: is super fun if you can keep her alive during her form change she 100% of the time pulls 8s or above during it and she hits HARD with her magic. Even without that form if you are lucky she can deal crazy aoe damage either way. Just hope you don't draw 1's or nothing will happen at all on that turn.

Robb: is status ailments its his specialty and hes good at it so use him for that

Viktor: yea buffer nothing to say there

Bathruz: is good when enemy is weak to light or dark but I still Prefer Mikah in general for more consistent Truck level damage unless they are immune to phys for w/e reason.

Lenne once she gets third eye and the aoe imbue element spells she becomes amazing you can also just put heavens tear on her and then not have to worry about having the elemental thrust moves and she will be fine, though I would still keep fire for easy oil synergy. For single target dps while third eye is active + enemy has heavy/dry/wet/oil w/e she will do crazy damage during it assuming she stays alive when she activates third eye. Also cleanse when the enemy puts some very problematic buffs on them. You can also use her to support Mikah with the imbues to do even more crazy damage if they are weak to a specific element.

Again Mikah is more consistent because she doesn't have to debuff herself to buff herself for even a turn just use either tiger moves for combo to get full bloom then blast with full bloom or dragon moves for aoe and then blast with full bloom. Mikah should NOT be slept on shes super fast too. She also has aoe Offense and Defense buffs so you can just throw on the offense buff before you start her combos and watch her destroy things. You don't even need an emblem or accessory using call of nature shes good to go!

Raphael was amazing for 1 single fight for me lol and that was the Randomage when I couldn't keep the silence stacks up he could tank it all and be relatively ok + make us immune to the magic spam. He is generally just good against magic spewing bosses that is his purpose so use him for that.

Glenn: hes a jack of all trades like most main characters he leans heavily into phys stuff though but his breaks are absolutely necessary and I used his ultimate move more than anyones until Amalia was recruited. I like to keep oil slash on him when I use Lenne for the aforementioned combo. Also RESTRAIN I used this move so damn much it was practically required for me to have access to.

Amalia: uh god tier Healer only character who give you reraise too can also completely ignore attacks at a 20% rate when the cres defend ability is maxed her worst trait is her hp give her hp ups to compensate for that and better defenses and she will do her job just fine. Very easy to put her in the back row and swap her in when needed to just save the battle with aoe raise or her ult to do the same and full heal.

crystals atm need a serious rework you don't NEED any of them but I would heavily recommend investing in the tp% use less ones get those to level 10 for the ult gear and thats really all you need.

in closing Sienna may be my favorite character story wise but Mikah is just a better unit in combat in most ways.

I found the super boss very easy with my team setup, never touching Egyl, Mikah, or Raph. Lots of damage reduction and defense buffs makes it trivial. I beat him on the first try, honestly I found the bosses to get the tablets harder, like Poem guy. Was a bit disappointed at the super boss, he seemed to do nothing to me with all my buffs and debuffs. He just switched from physical to magic and back a couple times.. and I just kept nuking him with Balthraz and Glenn.

Anytime a big attack came I just defended.. and took basically no damage. Don't forget defending is a thing lol
