It's about time, i still might play this if they do.

No, they did not. However I fail to understand what a "big deal" people are making about it. The game runs, the only thing you have to worry about is clicking on an icon to run it, so why the need for people to expect GFWL to be removed? I agree that its a massive pain in the butt, but its not really effecting anything.

(1) Do a fresh install of GTA-IV or ELFC (or both) unless you already have a fresh installation. This really only applies if the existing installation has become corrupted, been modified or seemingly won't work.

(2) Install http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=201134 - this patches the games so that the old Games For Windows Live (GFWL) login is upgraded so it now connects to the XBOX server which replaced it.

(3) When prompted for a login, you can choose to ignore or to create a new XBOX account. For example, I have a decade-old GFWL account and the server allowed me to login without any issues, but a lot of people have found that their GFWL login no longer works, so make a new XBOX one. Once you have patched GTA-IV, if you also have EFLC, it will automatically patch that too.

(4) Run the game you wish to play. Please be advised that after patching with the application I mentioned here the loading screens will be displayed, you will hear the GTA-IV theme tune wherein the screen will then go black for about one minute and then the Rockstar Games Social Club loading screen will appear.

(5) Set the options for the game, video, screen resolution, controls (if necessary) and then play.

NOTE: your save games and key binding data is in the following folder: C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_<long number> - if you have several long numbers, just open the folders one by one until you find a file called ControlMap.dat and this is where GTA-IV, The Lost and Damned, and The Ballard of Gay Tony saves the game. NOT on some cloud - this is a ten year old game we're talking about here that existed long before there was a cloud so all saves are done locally.

Too much hassle. Thanks though.

If you don't care about Multiplayer, X Live Less is an easy fix.

Yes and no

The software that you normally use for multiplayer and achievements is still there
They now rerouted gfwl to respond to xbox accounts instead.

You do need GFWL and not the xbox app to make it function

Nope.

GFWL is been updated to use Xbox accounts.

once you get it working it's not a bother, but the problem with GFWL is that whenever a game uses it it is a pain in the ♥♥♥ to get working. I upgraded my hardware and now i just get a black screen after the splash texts.

The reason to drop GFWL is so I can play GTA IV 1.0.8.0 without having to downgrade it to 1.0.7.0 with the xXxlifeless thing. Sounds like a legit reason to me!

Isnćt it te♥♥♥♥♥allz 1.0.9.0

It would be 1090 if the music removal update actually came with a new .exe and actual changes to game code, but it didn't.

You're missing X Live Less Addon required for 1080 then.

Thanks man! Finally got it going. Interesting combo, had to pair that together with:

https://github.com/ThirteenAG/Ultimate-ASI-Loader/releases (v.4.41) and the legacy version of the xlive DLL (for GTA IV 1.0.7.0)

It only works if you use all 3. Thanks again! I'm so glad I didn't waste all that time on a save I'm unable to ever use again!
