Some questions about Co-Op.

First, how does picking up essence work. Is it just whoever is standing closest to it that gets it? What about going into a vault? If one person goes into a vault, does everyone automatically go in with him, or can they just continue on their way?

I'm am only level 22, and I worry about getting stuck with high level players who will be salty about how much help I will be to the run. Is the community pretty friendly?

Right now, I have a hard time collecting more than 30 essence in a run, and I saw one review that stated He was in the same situation, but was getting much more essence playing co-op than he did in single player, and was able to unlock levels faster. However, I hate the thought of being dead weight to the team.

I am assuming there is voice chat in the game since many of the threads talk about people asking their teammates for scrolls.

only weapons&scrolls drop by players are "shared",everything else including money and ammo is client side(you keep your loot)

Drops are all player-specific, nobody can "steal" your essence, gold, scrolls, guns, etc. You can share guns and scrolls by picking them up and dropping them, then others can also see them and pick them up.

You have to physically go into the vault yourself, you won't be teleported into it if someone else goes in.

There's a little icon next to a player's portrait if they are inside a vault, so you know if they're inside.

I really only play co-op with my wife, so no idea about the larger community. There is definitely voice chat though, and also text chat.

O.K. I just played my 1st co-op games tonight. The first time I tried to get into a game, it put me (ranked 22) with three high ranking players, and before we could start playing I was told that I was "kicked off" the squad. I thought, "I understand why, but that is not very friendly". The second match I got teamed up with 2 lower ranked players, and one high ranking player, and it was a lot of fun. We didn't get past the 1st boss, but still had fun. The 3rd and last try, I got put in with 3 higher ranked players, but they put up with me. I didn't do as much as they did, but still killed plenty of enemies, and against the 1st boss, I had a Scorching Rounds pistol that I had leveled up, and help pour fire into the boss until we finished him off. Felt I had contributed.

The one thing I couldn't fiqure out is in the menu it says push T to talk, but that didn't seem to be working. I never heard any talking during the game. At one point, the host texted me in game, but I didn't see his message at the left hand side of the screen until it was too late. I felt like an idiot because I missed out on getting some healing, and I'm am sure he was not happy to have a noob on his team.

So, is there no talking thru a mic, and how do you text the players on your team in the game?

I didn't see this part of your post till now. I don't remember seeing that in the list of keyboard commands.
