Giant Ant Hills
Can we build them in the editor? I can't find them and would love to be able to.

Thanks!

He's asking if the buildings that produce ants in the secret giant ant missions can be used in the level editor.

Yee.

I only ever played Red Alert once through Origin, maybe 1 or 2 short skirmishes. I never touched the campaign or really anything else. Just tried it. This is probably the absolute only C&C game I never really played. Others I've played at least a few dozen or more hours.

Favourites were Command and Conquer, Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, Command and Conquer 3 and Kane's Wrath, and Generals: Zero Hour. I never played vanilla Generals though. Red Alert 3 was an iffy next, followed by Command and Conquer 4 and then Tiberian Son and Firestorm.

I never really touched the original Red Alert, this was it. My point is, I never knew these ants existed until last night when my first skirmish was on the only multiplayer map that features said ant hills and I want to make a skirmish map with a bunch of them. I think it'd be a cool mechanic to utilize. :D:

maybe, there was a Multiplayer map in Aftermath that contained anthills and spawned ants!
so if that exists it may be possible, though could require some more extensive effort to make them spawn ants

I was playing that last night.

According to this,[ra.afraid.org] it was MegaMap (Island Wars Extreme).

I was Googling around, looking to find out but found nothing. I'd really like to be able to build these ant hills and edit spawn rates and numbers, etc. Make a mission with a central infestation or something. :D:

Ant hills afaik are just terrain, not a building. They spawned with triggers/script in the original.

Wonder if the editor has a way to make your own? hmm

I know it's been almost two years since you posted this, but you can create the ants in the Map Editor. Now as far as getting them to do anything...yeah still working on that. I have tried every trigger I can think of to no avail. They just sit there.

That sucks. I think it'd be really fun to do a Skirmish match against AI and deal with the ants as well. Kinda like Tiberian Sun and the mutants.

Do necro again if you make progress, and thanks for taking a look!

TO enable ANTS you need to add to your MPR file above the Basic section

[ANT1] Image=ANT1 Name=Warrior Ant Primary=Mandible Strength=125 Armor=heavy TechLevel=-1 Sight=3 Speed=8 Cost=700 Points=40 ROT=8 Tracked=yes Crewed=no NoMovingFire=yes GuardRange=5 [ANT2] Image=ANT2 Primary=FireballLauncher Name=Fire Ant Strength=75 Armor=heavy TechLevel=-1 Sight=3 Speed=8 Cost=700 Points=40 ROT=6 Tracked=yes Crewed=no NoMovingFire=yes [ANT3] Image=ANT3 Name=Scout Ant Primary=TeslaZap Strength=85 Armor=light TechLevel=-1 Sight=3 Speed=7 Cost=700 Points=40 ROT=9 Tracked=yes Crewed=no NoMovingFire=yes GuardRange=5 [Mandible] Damage=50 ROF=15 Range=1.5 Projectile=Invisible Speed=100 Warhead=Super Report=ANTBITE [TeslaZap] Damage=60 ROF=25 Range=1.75 Projectile=Invisible Speed=100 Warhead=Super Report=ANTBITE Charges=no

The ants can be spawned from the Map tile " Hill" by putting a waypoint in the upper left corner of the map tile

It's the triggers to make stuff spawn on the map. I think that falls under "Reinforce" in Red Alert.
DDF3 Mar 26, 2022 @ 10:42pm
You can use reinforce in singleplayer don;t know if that works in multiplayer though.

But he is correct you can place ants on the map , and they will just sit there and do nothing until you add the sections i pasted to your MPR file

Editing TeslaZap in a multiplayer map is a terribly bad idea; the Tesla Coil kind of needs that, you know. Much better to instead recycle something unused like [Sniper].

Fairly sure it works; The Hills Have Eyes also has a village that constantly spawns civilians. Same kind of scripting.
