final artifact fragment question (spoilers)

i know from the debug menu that the last fragmented artifact i'm missing is a compass.

my question is, has anyone gotten the final 10th piece of it, and where was it? i'm in the middle of my second year and have found every single other thing in the journal. after combing the entire map a few times, i thought the fragment would maybe be in the new library nook, but it wasn't, so now i'm lost and confused.

UPDATE; I FINALLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GOT IT. IT ISN'T ANYWHERE ON THE MAP, IT'S GIVEN TO YOU IN A RANDOM ASS SIDE QUEST.

Not 100% sure where I found it, it was a few days ago that I finally got it but here is what I can recall. I think it was up a back alley between two houses (there's a set of steps near where Avery stands when he's in the Archaeo Pelago, go up there, and between the houses, had to dismount as it was too narrow for my mount. pretty sure that was where I found the last one I found.

already checked there, unless there's a quest that opens it up more... so i've just missed a normal one out in the world? there isn't one that only becomes available at a certain time or after a certain quest? uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Don't hold me to this, but I'm almost certain I received a Compass as part of a quest. And again, this could be wrong, but I believe it's late into the Mari/Owynn Dino tracking questline.

Yeah okay. I thought it might be a stretch, I just remembered one of them talking to me about a compass at one stage. Would love an update if you ever do find it. Good luck!

Also, any chance you could send me a screenshot of all the historic places ? I'm missing a couple and for the life of me can not find them!

You won't believe it. I'd never gotten off my dinosaur to see that I could actually repair the garden in Veridian Valley... I have two Corys, that are literally all around it.

nah i can believe it XD it doesn't really look like something that needs repairs done to it, and i probably only knew cuz i was digging around looking for dreamstones/fragments.

I FINALLY GOT IT!!! the last artifact fragment is found by mari as a random side quest! i gave her a pie then she had me give marlo some junk and then she told me she found a 'dial' and had me hand it to zara who revealed it was a compass needle and now my journal is finally done! that was so annoying! why on earth would they do it like that! i spent so long wasting time looking for it!!!

Oop, I just gave Mari her apple pie, so she'll probably give me my last artifact fragment, too.

I'm fine with a game holding back artifact pieces through questlines, but because key quests are hard to trigger (without spamming task board quests), it's just some sloppy execution.

i feel that collectibles should never be withheld by quests except if they are rather early-game, guaranteed quests, because of exactly what happened with me where i had found literally all the others and wasted a ton of time searching for the final piece that didn't exist. it was frustrating and unnecessary.

yeah, you were half right- it was a mari quest but not the dino tracking one, it was her human-herd studying one.
