Low FPS on Gaming PC (10 FPS)
I never had low FPS on my new gaming computer with other games. But I've struggled to fix the performance of this game for hours. I've read about others having similar issues, playing with the settings and resetting the game countless times. I thought I would never get to play this game as the benchmark was showing an average of 10 FPS for cut scenes and game-play was worse, it was unplayable even on low quality graphics settings. I tried all the different fixes I could find on the internet from driver changes, battery charging methods, graphic settings, and so on and nothing was making a bit of difference.

Now I have figured it out! The fix was so simple, but it's also wrong. Under graphics, the output adapter is either 0 or 1 (with no names). For my hardware, the choice is either 3925/4095 or 3989/32,619. Anyone would obviously leave it in the default one with higher GPU MB memory (32,619), but it's actually the opposite choice (4095) to get good performance. I changed it now I'm getting an avg around 40 FPS on mostly high settings and the game looks great. I'm surprised my issues have been resolved with this backwards fix and I get to play this beautiful game. I'm posting this here so that it might help someone who has the same issue.

it's not a backwards fix, and it's not wrong either.

the ram available goes up because the second adapter with the higher number is actually your integrated gpu on your mobo, and the ram amount is based on your actual ram.

im guessing you have 32 gigs of ram installed? - integrated gpus don't have vram, they use system ram if i wasn't clear enough.

anyway integrated gpus are trash and should never be used, even when they say they have more ram.
My game ran at 60 fps consistently, but was getting split second lags spikes from nowhere, I did find a fix.

run in compatibility for windows 7, and turn off bordless windowed features, in the exe settings.

while also having these particular game settings in line - VSYNC - ON - Triple buffering - OFF - Bordless window mode, not fullscreen

Not sure if this will work for you, but it did for me, so if it does work for you, then great!
define "GAMING PC"
a marketing tool label used to sell more units doesnt mean your pc is actually a good pc, it just has Gaming in the name

When I said that its a backwards fix I meant that its counter-intuitive when going by the metric shown in the in-game menu of available free ram to use, it makes sense to use the GPU with the most MB, but in my case using the GPU option with the least MB available is the better choice. I imagine this is a common confusing aspect having shared ram on most new computers, so this should be fixed to only show Dedicated Video RAM.

For other games I don't normally have to change the GPU the game uses, so this was easy to overlook when trouble shooting the FPS lag. I'm not sure why this game choose the wrong graphics option by default when other games don't do this (probably the GPU MB metric), but it should at least show the graphics card names instead of 0 or 1 (Intel UHD Graphics or NVIDIA GPU).

Apparently the on board Intel UHD Graphics uses shared memory of the system that is limited by the OS to one-half (32gb) of the available System Memory (64gb), but this could be changed in the BIOS.

In the last 30 days 62,215 people tested RDR2 on Can You Run It, the results show 43% Passed, 57% Failed. So it's common for people to not meet the system requirements, I would of thought my FPS would of been higher than an average of 40 FPS with the game changed to my dedicated GPU considering that I surpassed the recommended settings in every category for CPU, GPU, RAM, OS, HDD. I've been making tweaks to the settings but there should be a better balance and efficiency between high definition and frame rate on higher end computers. The game was released years ago so by now with all the updates released the default settings should fit the computer running it.

that's not how it works and your assumption that the greater value is better is caused by your ignorance of what the adapters actually are.

the rest of us know that one is the gpu, the other is the integrated gpu, and we know that the higher value is due to the system ram, not vram.

integrated gpus do NOT have vram, so it wouldn't be possible to show what has better vram because you're comparing system ram to vram, two completely different things.

full disclosure btw, most of us are using systems that don't have an integrated gpu, so this isn't an issue at all for us.

integrated gpus are meant for office machines so you can do things like powerpoint without an expensive gpu, not gaming machines.

so while your pc may be new and touted as a good pc, it may not be great for gaming in terms of the integrated graphics, which is clear.
Nothing wrong with your computer! That game is hacked and no function like before, I play this game for years and I never have this problems, before, now the game is very heave, and there is no excuse for it, because no major updates since.

You are purposely being argumentative and you insult me by calling me ignorant which is not welcomed and your post will be ignored next time it happens. Btw you are making assumptions of your own by appealing to the majority without any facts to back it up.

Here are my key points summarized:

  • RDR2 has high system requirements that many do not meet and the game is known to have performance related issues that unfortunately often leads gamers to having to troubleshoot the issues and fine tuning the settings

  • My dedicated rig surpasses the game recommended requirements and runs other games well without all these issues, but not this game (40 FPS average)

  • My dedicated GPU has plenty of vram and other good specs that should be able to achieve 60 FPS or higher.

  • Integrated graphics are standard with most PCs and not necessarily for office machines, they can play games on their own. When combined with a dedicated graphics card they make the best of both worlds. Integrated GPUs are great for using on a computer for more than just gaming such as watching videos and web browsing, allowing for lower heat, quieter fan noise, efficient processing, longer lasting dedicated GPU and fans especially when they are left on, Some Integrated GPUs such as AMD Vega perform better than most entry level dedicated GPUs.

  • In the in-game settings, it's easy to overlook the video processor selection with all the setting options.

  • The default GPU should be the dedicated GPU over the GPU with the most ram (in my case its the integrated GPU which gets worse performance),

  • The distinction between 0 and 1 is not clear enough when choosing the video processor and the MB metric can be confusing when an integrated GPU shares MB. The graphics ram metric shouldn't have been implemented, and its more important to have the names of the GPUs when selecting one.

  • It should be more clear what the system requirements are to reach 60 FPS or higher, as systems that reach the recommend requirements still might not be able to achieve 60 FPS.
just get a better pc brokie
Set output adapter to 0 then restart the game.
