Cannot Awaken a Weapon on PS5?

My friend is playing on PS5, on a controller. He had all the mats, and did all the little nodes on the Awaken screen and then the game said to Awaken, to hold the x button.

When he does that though, nothing happens. He tried a few other buttons, but basically it just took his mats and now won't let him complete the process.

What are we missing here?
