OMORI

I think Omori is too long, wayyy too long.
why tf CANT I SKIP ANY OF THE CHORES IN THE CASTLE WHY DO I HAVE TO TEACH A CLASS HOW TO SING

Omori teases the player all the time with hints of dark themes but never does anything with it until the very end. it just tickles your balls then spits you out into 7 hours of garbage that is so out of no where and unrelated to the story that i wouldnt even call them sidequests, BUT THEYRE MANDATORY TO BEAT THE GAME.

Omori tries to tell a really interesting story, and it does! it does it well actually.
But to get to those cool impressive awe inspiring parts you must drag your balls through glass talking for hours then doing stuff for random people only for it to never matter ever for the rest of the game. oh! you really liked the space boyfriend? well he never shows up ever again. oh but you spent hours doing his chores? well be prepared for it to be irrelevant to anything interesting.

Omori is too long.
Theres too much pointless dialogue.
You should be able to skip the chores in the castle.

EDIT: Ignore the hours i just want to talk about how i think theres a lot of pointless dragged out nonsense in Omori

The game is definitely not long if you just carry one with the main plot, but some like to play a game to its full potential, even if it means same blob of pixels sixty times (Oops). But that's the fun right? You never know if you're gonna get an easter egg on the next click. Personally I liked the parts in Heaspace better, since there wasn't much of a world to explore in Faraway town, and the battle strategies monotonous. The nostalgiacore + traumacore aesthetic really appealed to me too, but that's just personal preference I guess, you dig the vibe or you don't.

If you're upset about all your leveling up and resource going to waste, which I kinda was the first time, I suggest the hikiomori route, where you can choose to remain in headspace and explore as long as you want to. This route also opens up new areas of the map. Escapism all the way!

I personally loved the pointless journeys Omori and his friends take altho I sort of understand what you mean because I had a few friends who picked up Omori and then thought it was boring because of the above mentioned. There are some things to take into consideration when analyzing this though.

I think you should take into consideration most of the dream world exploring that may seem "pointless" to the player to show how much of a bond the main character has with his friends, pointless adventures included.

Also you have to remember, Omori started as a web comic about a boy who went on adventures with his friends in his dreamworld. The story revolving around Mari did not come into vision until much later on, so Omocat had to cleverly weave this story together, which makes it seem disjointed to some people

I also read some of this thread very briefly, and I think you are also misunderstanding some of the world building devices themselves in game. For example, when you pointed out other places where the game slows down, such as when you were suppose to look for Basil and ended up getting trapped into helping Space Boyfriend, that is completely intentional. Omori himself is subconsciously altering the dream world into being a massive distraction for Sunny. That is why the game constantly slows into a crawl at times. This is suppose to be made clear in retrospect to the player, especially when Omori stabs Basil in red space and you, the player, loses control of Omori.

If pacing is an issue for you I respect that but I think sometimes there is a bit of a misunderstanding with some who play Omori so I just thought Id say these things.

I have less of a problem with it's pacing and more of a problem with it's lack of replay value. I was content with it the first time I played, but any other times I made it to Sweetheart's castle I always find myself thinking "Oh great, this long part that has no replay value to it whatsoever". This is specifically for Sweetheart's castle though, the rest of the game is fine to me.

bruh what were u doing that took u 40+ hours to complete? Gambling your life savings at the last resort?

Not long enough. I wouldn't mine 40 more hours of content tbh lol

After spending 30 hours to beat only the Sunny route to the True End, I can't fathom the OP's reasons of saying the mandatory segments of Headspace is not relevant to the story. While mechanically the spacing in Sweetheart's Castle is a drag, (should have allowed progression after helping two chores etc,) I would say the rest of your time spent in Headspace is very much relevant to the central plot.

Need to look deeper into the surface tho. If you're looking for Headspace gameplay that's really irrelevant, try Omori route and the exclusive areas in Headspace unlocked by Omori route.

the castle is the most drawn out for sure, but long drawn out dungeons are par for the course when it comes to jrpgs. omori is good where jrpgs are good: story and combat. its bad where jrpgs are typically bad: bloat and filler content. the game is still the most refreshing, and innovative game the genre has received in years though.

its an rpg mate, what did you expect? an rpg without the fluff is not worthy of being a game

I think the Humphrey Puzzles part was actually worse then the castle part, the sprout moles to me are really goofy and funny to me so i really liked the castle actually, i also really liked the music too. I know it's probably an unpopular opinion though.

If we get onto a part i really liked the least, probably the Humphrey Parts since it was more "please can i get this done and move on ffs" on the Puzzles, on a second playthrough of those parts though i feel like they weren't as bad as i thought the first time, but still dragged on to me on a blind playthrough. Maybe that was me more of just getting tired of headspace. I wish the Black Space Rooms were more dragged on though, im a big fan of Yume Nikki so those parts were really cool to me.

The length isn't the issue, it's the pacing. This game LOVES to waste your time, the "fast travel" sequences, most animations, the second Humphrey bridge where you have to go down a waterfall 4 TIMES
I've poured hundreds of hours into multiple games because they're fun, but Omori's main segments, the RPG stuff in Headspace is just so incredibly middling and slow. It's fine, that's it. The horror elements and the real world story that actually matters is all that's kept me playing. Maybe I've been spoiled by Xenoblade 1 and Final Fantasy VII, but the RPG side of this horror RPG is just lame and slow. And maybe that's intentional, but if it is, it adds absolutely nothing.

This is absolutely untrue. While lots of RPGs have a TON of content, almost half of it is usually optional sidequests. Omori is structured the same way, but has a ton of filler in the main story, possibly just because the team didn't think it was long enough since apparently "short game bad" regardless of the actual quality of it or replay value.
The Milk Man Jan 5, 2022 @ 4:59pm
for sweetheart's castle i think it fits, since sweetheart is meant to be the obnoxiously annoying antagonist of headspace. an annoying segment themed around an annoying character

And how stupid sprout moles were in general annoyed me a LOT, too.

I see the point of headspace things distracting Sunny from doing what he should be, but I think these distractions being fun would make the point stronger. Like how we'd do time-wasters like video games or watch tv and movies. Certainly, you do it cuz it's fun and that's what makes escapism so effective and addicting.
