Icarus - Patch Optimizations

This week we will be releasing Patch Optimizations

This week we are planning on rolling out a patch that our optimization team has been hard at work on. It involves a long standing issue with patch times. Due to the way steam's patching process works with UE4 games there has been issues in the past with some people experiencing long download and patching times. What we are doing is adjusting the way Icarus is being packed and distributed to work better with steams patching process.

This means that next week you will need to redownload the entire Icarus game but it also means that Icarus updates going forward will patch noticeably faster from week to week and the size on disk will be reduced.

This update will not effect your save files, all progress will be maintained.

Due to this we plan on rolling out this weeks patch a day early as to not interrupt anyone's regular weekend play time.

In case people want to stay on the previous version and time their update we have provided a branch on steam that will keep the current build on last weeks patch until you are ready to update..

 Icarus[2.1.26] 

How To Switch Branches

1. Right clicking on Icarus in Steam
   
2. Selecting Properties, this will open a window
   
3. Select Beta's
   
4. Use the drop down box to select the branch you want - in this case it is '2.1.26'

If the branch does not appear you may need to restart steam.

Laika

Next week is our Free Laika update which introduces a new taming mechanic, tamable wolves, boars and hyena's, creature leveling & talent trees, new animal troughs, the ability to pet creatures and more.

In addition we also will be releasing a Animal Companions DLC so you can bring your own cats and dogs to Icarus.

Thanks for all the update/support you bring to the game. Exited to discover all the new features when it will be live. I have no clues about what will come after the Laika update... I can't wait for discover/read what will be the next big update :)

Does this mean uninstall reinstall?

I thought the new update with optimization will increase game's performance but no. Nothing was changed compare to previous version. Kinda disappointed.

does this mean we have to do something special ? Or just update but it lasts longer perhaps because in the background it installs the complete game new. Or do we have to uninstall / reinstall ?

Downloading this one time will be longer because it is downloading the game in a new packed format. You don’t need to do anything extra another than just know it’s going to take longer this week.

Man, I hope you get it right this time. Last week I had to delete and reinstall the game because it would patch for and hour and then start all over again!
By now I think that the game spent more time patching itself that what I spent playing!

It took my computer about 30 min to download and patch

Were there other optimizations done other than just the games package files? The game seems to be running smoother now. Maybe it's just my imagination. Anyone else notice this?

i completed the udate yesterday in about 3 hours download time, i could start the game after that as usual, nothing lost. The game itself hasn't changed performance wise. We have to see how the download times of the updates in future will be after that.

I loved this game during the time that my wife and I played it. But we left the game a few months ago because of the intense stuttering that was happening after our base got to a certain size. That, and my wife kept losing all her workshop items after leaving every mission.

Have either of these situations improved since then? I was told that the stuttering was related to a growing save file based on some UE4 issue. I assume it's still UE4 so I don't expect that issue has been resolved. What about losing mission gear?

Would love to come back, had a great time when things worked well. Looking forward to feedback.

If you're losing gear due to legitimate bugs, then she can edit her character profile to give herself the exotics and ren to just buy back the items. No one here will think less of you for it. If you search you should be able to find the instructions to make the edits easy enough.
