Book of Heroes is not an epic story-driven RPG experience but consisting of short procedurally generated adventures. Our goal was to make a game that brings the tabletop RPG feeling to a digital form giving a chance to play short adventures also with people who don’t live near that are easy to schedule.
The focus has been on multiplayer and solo game was added to give a chance to play if you can’t find others to play with you giving the option to change between multiplayer and solo game. Of course, the whole game is possible to play solo too.
Henchmen are AI driven so you can’t fully control them. They have received lots of criticism and we have made some fixes already but they could still be better and there should be also more information on how to control them.
Game is not only fighting and you’ll get AP points (kind of similar to experience points) also without killing enemies if that is not part of the quest. There are puzzles though some are available only in multiplayer, characters have personal storylines that advances further you play and there are short dialogs with NPCs.
Personally, I find fascinating that the rule system (The Dark Eye) is rather different compared to the systems that are known world-wide and even though we also have received critique that the game is not authentic enough, I hope that it can work as an introduction to The Dark Eye universe as it has done for me.
If you are looking for a roleplaying game that does not depend on other players in a coop mode for a "rpg feel", you should look somewhere else, since this isn't what this game ever tried to be.
