I feel like bludgeoning someone in the face with it would be more effective than shooting at them. How many bullets is it supposed to take to kill someone with it?

It's one of the most fair and best weapon in game. The best weapon in-game to train with aslo.

But what about the damage? I can't help but notice I'm getting 10, 12 hits on people only for them to turn around and waste me in a few bullets. Is it lag? Is the game telling me I'm hitting them when I'm actually not, or is the gun just turd?

That's odd. I know for a fact I'm shooting (and hitting) people much more than 6 times and they simply aren't dying.

The star is great. I have my cr5 and far but if I want to go have fun and just do good I grab my no slot star to beat people up with.

The Star in the right hands can be an amazingly effective gun. You just need to learn a shooting style that fits you as a player or change your style to fit the gun more effectively. Personally I prefer 2 bullet burst, pause, 2 bullet burst, pause, repeat when targetting a distant target, or full spray and pray when the target gets close. For me it is a fairly effective way of generally getting more kills than deaths.

To date I have had 493 "hacker!" / "cheater!" / "aimbotter!" complaints whisperred or district chat accused against me in my career with APB. The vast majority of them from using the star 556 or its special Valentine's version the Love Gun which is the same gun but with a tagger mod attached. My best ever game I ended 24-0 k/d using that gun and as you can imagine I got spam accused afterward by almost every player on the enemy team.

For the record I don't cheat and even started twitch live streaming just to prove to people that I don't have any bizarre target jerks or bullet gimmicks going on.

In all honesty I am not even that scary. There are people who play APB that are able to make my best gameplay look like I am a beginner. And I am not just talking about the closeted cheaters either.

I know one player who never uses any gun except the Star that even makes my mainly using the Star efforts look like a distant finisher in terms of greatness. Just give the gun more time and more practice and you can expect better results.
