Mojo's speech quirk was removed (edit: inconsistently)
Yeah. I don't believe anyone else was changed; only Mojo.

Clearly of all the things to do with the remaster, this is what deserved the most attention.

Edit: Quoting this later post so people see the additional check:

Ok, I've been looking through the remaster's script and comparing it to the original. The remaster's script is stored in a database file that's easily readable and searchable, and script dumps exist for the original game. What I've found is this:
Mojo's speech quirk is completely inconsistent now.
There are various generic lines which run on the accent script. Mojo's accent script is, as far as I can tell, intact. So for those generic lines, Mojo will speak with his speech quirks.
There are also various defined lines as part of events, where the accent script is not used and everything is written out manually. This is the case with his joining event. These are completely inconsistent and for some of them his speech quirk has been written out completely while for others it's been written out somewhat and for others it's been left untouched.

I'll provide some examples here. Note that for the remaster text some lines are cut apart due to formatting.
Here is an example of more text where his quirk was written out: https://i.imgur.com/ESz2LHR.png https://i.imgur.com/fthOBBt.png
Here is an example of text where his quirk was not written out: https://i.imgur.com/FPdN8Rj.png https://i.imgur.com/NDq4g4k.png
And here's an example of generic member text where the accent script gets applied just so you can see that that's very different: https://i.imgur.com/hYU5XE4.png

I cannot think of any particular reason for this, if anything it seems like the game may have had multiple editors going through the script and one of them was removing his speech quirk from his dialogue while the other was not. That's the best guess I can make for why his dialogue has been rendered inconsistently like this.
With any luck Squeenix will actually address this in a patch.

Wonder if they removed Sneff’s as well?
Shylaar 7 Apr, 2022 @ 1:37pm
Granted, I haven't seen Sneff in the remaster yet. Probably won't be footage of that part of the game for another day. I wouldn't really expect Sneff to be edited though, since his speech quirk was based on his buck teeth.
This is unacceptable

lol ...you know, some might consider it offensive :D :D

this is just like that change in FF9, when they removed a little girl´s lisp at the beginning of the game

Explain how this is offensive to me

I honestly like the change. It just makes it easier to read the dialogue.

As someone who has never played this before.. I actually don't mind looking at those screenshots. If there's one thing I can't stand in video games it's annoying or hard to read speech styles. (Charlotte in Trials of Mana anyone..? /shudder)

Though I guess from a stance of purity and in the spirit of not removing/censoring anything I can see why original fans would be annoyed.

The original dialogue promoted racial stereotypes about sentient voodoo dolls

Well, they didn't change his speech quirk to make it any easier to read in Japanese...

The quirk is trash, games A+ thanks to this change.

Actually, does Poshul still have a lisp in her auto-generated party dialogue?

The original English release had an "automatic accent generator" for times when your party members had shared dialogue. It's possible the remaster just ended up breaking that feature(intentionally or unintentionally I have no idea)
Shylaar 7 Apr, 2022 @ 2:11pm
Like I said in the OP, only Mojo had his accent removed, at least of everything I've been able to check up to Viper Manor. Poshul's dialogue hasn't been changed. Neither has Harle and her iconic French accent.
Additionally, this dialogue is unique to Mojo, so it wouldn't have been run through that accent modifier in the first place. The party join text is separate to that too. This cannot be anything other than an intentional change.

conveying an accent is offensive ? Or do people think everyone speaks perfect English ? lol...

Twitter was a mistake, let`s be honest.
Everyone in the world has an accent. We all have our own quirks and differences depending on where we were born and raised. I understand that representing that in a game can make it difficult to read, but I think it is a charming way to explore different ways of speaking. I don't see how it's offensive. Even for me in my own state, I can run into people who will say the word "New York" differently and that has its charm. As this game did when I played it growing up and seeing the many different ways characters would speak. It's a disappointing change to me to be sure. One I am unsure if I will ever see in game due to the poor performance of it.
