wait... before you go up in blood pressure... I am not saying anything about anybody's ability to use their brains. I am just surprised to see so many having an issue with that "find" :)
glhf
i have played a lot right up to maddox's 4th wall breaking comment at the end and i am saving for a few extra ships while rep grinding (higher quality rewards and higher difficulty would be nice at higher rep levels. the fact that you can get your level +1 stuff is awesome but if its grey or green whats the point.)
i just never dug hard enough in the control map menu to know it was there
it's just that, for me, I hit a button without knowing it and flying around went all-free so suddenly... so I had to look that up ;)
that 4th wall definitely made me both laugh really hard and very frustrated... a little like : "hahahaha....aaarg nooooo" ;)
Ok so I made the grave mistake of trying this on a ship with +88% bost speed, 118m/s and 562 handling (Striker II, all Superior 17-18s). I tested this at Rhodia II to fly around at my leasure, and at full tilt boost, I had to use the cruise boost just to TRY and regain control, when even then I was on this slingshot directory to who knows where.
So what is the best ship to use when turning this off? I feel like I made a poor choice for my first outing or test with this setting. I can see this incredibly useful to toggle on the fly, so I can circle straife, or do precision run-bys without worry of losing my speed.
That being said, the magic of inertia dampeners off in combat is that the enemy ships miss a lot more, but you have to correct your aim with more effort and you may sometimes get far enough for some close range weapons to not reach your target, so it's a kind of gameplay you need to study it's effectiveness before applying it to the right situations. It is not viable on enclosed sites, for example.
I... think that I also got really surprised while using "cruise boosters". As, if I got this right, alter your overall flight speed but doesn't change your maneuverability... which means that without dampeners, you have to work more carefully. You will go faster in all directions, but your ability to decelerate and change directions won't. (if that makes any sense)
So, usually, I choose an "eco-boost"... but I still have Ford. (motorheads' inside joke)
glhf !
Just put the maximum speed gain possible. If you need a quick correction, toggle the dampeners on. There's no better break than that. Then toggle dampeners off again, point into another direction, and boost.
if I really wanted a SIM, I'd buy a SIM ;)
Yes I am aware being able to use the toggle button, but it is miserable to have to work with when in the middle of combat and constantly checking if the space brakes are on or off.
So I ended it putting it on my M3 (click on the middle mouse wheel) and rebinding my "closest target" button to something else.
Worked wonders for me, hope it works for you too! I dont know of any "hold to toggle" as of yet, thats as close as I could get.
I use my thumb buttons for vertical Up/Down on the ship, so I can do fancy maneuvering.
