1.) The team is incredibly small. I am the artist/writer/designer, My wife Kay is the studio co founder and does all the 3d props/assets along with some help on the 2d when needed, we have a music composer named Andi Han, and our Coder Al Tan handled making the toolkit and bringing all the scripting together.
2.) Kay is the native Hong Konger (from Kowloon-Tong) and she was absolutely integral to the writing and cultural guidance. We spent a few years working out the details and put a lot of time into the authenticity. While you won't see any specific urban legends (beyond some small references) this time, the spirit of cantonese mysticism and folklore is intact. All of our cantonese speaking characters are voiced by native HK voice actors. Sayaka, who voiced Mei was coached by Kay for authenticity in her handful of cantonese lines.
While Andi is from London, he is still ethnically Chinese and Al is from Singapore. I am the only non-asian on the team, but have been to Hong Kong several times and spent years researching and working with Kay to make something FOR Hong Kongers who rarely get to see their culture presented in the West.
We fully intend to tell more stories from the Hong Kong perspective, and Sense's main-line games will always focus on cantonese culture and stories!
Thanks for the detailed info, man. I'm Cantonese myself, though not from HK. My wife was raised in Mongkok, however. The game looks quite impressive for a 4-person job. I'm definitely piqued by this and would be interested to see what else is in store from you guys.
Yo I love the art. Stylistic proportions are my jam, specially in some creation stuff I do, hunted down your art-station keep up the good work.
I'm not of Asian ethnicity, but have been yearning for Eastern Asian folklore of this caliber. It's just not done! AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY, IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL AND MYSTERIOUS. Thank you for all of the work and research you and your team put into this project. It's absolutely delightful candy to those like myself within the more niche horror demographic. Everything about it, the difficulty, the puzzles, the mystery.
I saw the urban legend reference and recognized it instantly first playthrough; looked her up and down, said "oh yep." and kept walking lol. Curiosity killed the cat later lol. If you continue to do more projects like these, please know that you have an audience eating this up fervently who are starved from lack of folklore and ghosts.
We absolutely have more games we plan to make just like Sense! Kay and I are already starting early work and writing on the next thing, but will take a short vacation once we relaunch with the update lol. IF you want to support us, just share teh game around to everyone you can when our patch is out! The more ground we can make up, the better!
Thank you so much for your support! We were wondering if those Eastern Asian urban legend would not be appealing! Its very exciting to know that you guys are enjoying that! I myself is born and raised in Hong Kong. We have so many incredible and mysterious story that I think are very interesting! I even consulted my mother and grandmother so I can get things right. =P I used to go to high school in Sham Shui Po! Its a great little place! Filled with the most authentic taste of HK, Neon lights and a mall just for computer parts and games! In the future, we will be added even more of those aspect into our game!
Once again , thank you so much for the support! If you have the time, please leave us a review, so people will know what we are offering!
