Troubleshooting: Startup, Loading and Save Issues

Hello everyone! Before creating a thread, look if you have any of the issues below, and try the solutions offered.

Startup Issues

Issue: When I open the game, the screen is black

Solution:

1. In your files, go to C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\LocalLow, and delete the Paralives folder. *Before doing so, make sure to make a backup of the save folders within.

Issue: When I open the game, the screen is black with the text Reimporting assets.

Solution:

1. Locate where your mod are installed, which will be either C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\LocalLow\Paralives\Paralives, or (DRIVE):/Steam/steamapps/common/Paralives/../../workshop/content/1118520/, and delete mod folders. You will be able to relaunch the game, and once that is done, redownload your mods.

2. Disable your mods

• Right click on Paralives
  
• Click "Properties"
  
• Click on the "Workshop" tab on the window that pops up
  
• Click "Show Advanced Options"
  
• Go to where it says "Locally Enabled Items" and click the "Disable Filtered" button to uncheck all subscribed items. (This will not delete them, but it will only enable any mods that have local copies of files in your AppData\LocalLow\Paralives\Paralives folder

Restart the game to see if the "Reimporting Assets" overlay pops back up. If it doesn't, then you can go through and gradually re-enenable subscribed items until you can single out the one that could be causing the game to hang during the initial loading process.

Issue: When I open the game, I see clouds.

Solution:

1. In your files, go to C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\LocalLow, and delete the Paralives folder. *Before doing so, make sure to make a backup of the save folders within.

2.Disable your anti-virus. This issue is often because anti-viruses block Paralives from accessing its own files.

Issue: My game crashes often

Solution:

1. Double check whether your computer can run the game. A computer that is below minimum specs is often times the reason for crashes.

2. Create a thread where you copy and paste your crash log. Head to C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\LocalLow\Paralives\Paralives, and locate the player.log and player-prev.log files. These can be opened in notepad and copy-pasted.

Loading Issues

Issue: When I continue my save, I stay stuck on the loading screen. There is no problem when doing New Game.

Solution:

1. The save is corrupted. Follow the steps given by the team is order to hopefully fix your save: https://www.paralives.com/news/fix-save-files

Issue: When I continue my save, I stay stuck on the loading screen. New game also does not work.

Solution:

1. In your files, go to C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\LocalLow, and delete the Paralives folder. *Before doing so, make sure to make a backup of the save folders within.

Save Issues

Issue: When I open my save, everything is floating.

Solution:

1. Quit without saving and reload the save.

2. Switch households

Issue: When I open my save, the whole town is gone.

Solution:

1. Replace your town folder:

• Create a New Game in the town
  
• Save and Quit.
  
• Go to Load Game and hover over the saves (the broken one, and the new one you just created), and click on the pencil icon. This will allow you to rename the saves, and will help for the next steps.
  
• Head to C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\LocalLow\Paralives\Paralives\MySavedGames.mod and locate the folder for the new save. In it, find the folder that ends with .town. Copy it.
  
• Go back to  C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\LocalLow\Paralives\Paralives\MySavedGames.mod and find the folder for the save that has the broken town.
  
• Delete the .town file, and paste the one from the new save.
