Так, а Ps1-2 будет вообще?
Sneeze Jun 17, 2020 @ 9:08pm

Very nice!

Just curious, what made you choose these particular cores? Some choices I can understand, but others seem strange. For example, I thought Beetle PSX was the preferrable core for the PS1 emulation. Bsnes isn't there as well.

In any case, wish you luck with the upcoming launch.

Hopefully Gamecube and PS2 will be added in soon. Those have the best multiplayer games to use remote play with.

@Toff Probably because PCSX ReARMed has a built-in HLE BIOS. Beetle PSX HW is definitely one of our crown jewels though, but it will be released later.

"Bsnes isn't there as well" - it isn't, but Mesen S should be a fairly competitive alternative by now. Mesen and Mesen S are both of excellent quality.

Nevertheless, these are just the initial cores. We're thinking of a scattered post-launch lineup of cores that we will be releasing in a drip-feed manner.

Ah, that makes sense. I guess all of those cores were chosen for similar reasons.

No offense, but as a longtime user of RetroArch, I have to ask - what do you guys see as "The Point" of doing this Steam release? It seems heavily compromised and inconvenient (to say the least) as compared to the shareware release.

If I want to download a core in current builds, I just use the Core Updater, find the thing, click it, bada bing, bada boom. And it's rife with options on top of options.

This? The idea of having to use Steam's store interface every time I'm interested in a new system sounds cumbersome at best.

Now I appreciate that I'm not the target audience, but that brings me back to the original question. Even if someone gets into this Steam version ecosystem, their convenience will increase mightily by deintegrating and using the shareware version. So again - what is "The Point" behind offering this version of RetroArch?

Automatic updates.

(the amount of people asking for help in the forums/reddit using an old RA or core version is considerable).

...
OTOH, the number of times an updated version broke something (or required a new specific configuration) makes me wary...

Hmm. My interest in the steam version just vanished when I read that news.
