Yeah, wish there was a 'pay what you want' feature on Steam where you could pay either $0 or any amount you wanted, but alas, that would have been the only other feasible option. So free it was instead.
well, not quite ... some devs of free software decided to add "support DLC" for their stuff ... like $1, $5, $10 etc. etc. ... it's essentially empty DLC, it doesn't have to give anyone any additional functions
it would be a one-time only thing, but that might actually be better because someone can start with the $1 one ... and then also buy the other ones ... so yeah, that's definitely a possibility! :)
You could offer several tiers of donation "DLCs" if you want instead, with the store pages for the DLCs stating that those are purely just donations and that they don't offer anything for the actual "Game.
This would also allow us to permanently bind the game to our accounts even after uninstalling it, just make sure you offer a $1 tier, that's very likely going to make lots of people buy it simply to permanently bind the App to their steam account.
