The state of Whispers from the Rift on release (June 21st, 2025)
Steve here, head (and only) writer for iDGi. I wanted to share some insight into the general state of Whispers upon release on June 21st, 2025.

From start to finish, this project has taken a little over eight years to write. I've considered it a writing training tool for many years. During this time, I've worked full-time at a hotel in Vancouver, B.C., and wrote Whispers at work or in my free time at home. From the beginning, it was meant to be a side project that, much to Greg's (iDGi CEO and my brother) annoyance, I said would be done when it was done. I put no time limits or restrictions on anything and let the story develop without pressure.

Ultimately, I've rewritten huge portions multiple times, and I jumped around a lot when polishing over the years. My writing ability has slowly improved over this time, reflected by a sometimes inconsistent style. The game is simply too massive (estimated ~400,000 words!), with too many moving parts, making some portions more polished than others. More than anything else, sections I've worked on more recently are much tighter than sections I last worked on years ago (I've learned to ramble a lot less over the past few years!).

So, while I intend to keep polishing after release, the story is complete. I will continue to refine, tighten, and fix any lingering bugs folks send us, but I am incredibly proud and happy with the story as it currently sits. If anything, editing from now on will be to cut and trim rather than add (unless, of course, a really good idea comes up!).

Honestly, I could keep working on this monster for the rest of my life, polishing and refining it forever, but it's time to set it free and let people in. To that end, if you have any comments or thoughts about any aspect of the story or game itself, I would love to hear them. The nice thing about a game like this is that it's easily malleable, and our concept allows for that malleability to be "in-game." The satellite is always getting better at figuring out how to read Jenkins' brain, didn't you know? :)
