The Campaign Update - 0.7.0
Campaign Mode
The Campaign Update is now live - this huge new game mode completely changes the way you can play the game.

Get ready to conduct large-scale operations across multiple regions to bring peace to an entire country. Develop unique tactics and manage resources in a persistent world with all new map features and overcome radically different strategic challenges.

Features

Embark on a grand campaign: Deploy your operation across five regions with unique and procedurally generated characteristics. Hyperinflation, a vulnerable foreign embassy, huge numbers of national soldiers or even an urban warzone - the combinations are endless.

Face an ever adapting Insurgency: As the campaign goes on, the Insurgents will learn devastating new tactics to challenge you. Sleeper cells, ambushes or even swimming lessons (!) will radically change how they fight.

Develop powerful new tactics: Each region that you stabilise dramatically expands your abilities and resources. Sniper support, advance development experts, indestructible garrisons, or even removing all corruption in the region open up all kinds of strategic opportunities.

Stay alert and change your strategy: Choose wisely and plan ahead.
New wildcard features mean governors and advisors get exhausted, caves can be found in any region and even Azure Dam without the dam! You'll need to think on your feet.

Experience a persistent narrative: Engage with new dynamic events and difficult multi-region decisions which have lasting consequences throughout the campaign. Coups, outbreaks, economic downturn and even popular television shows are disasters waiting to happen in these system driven events.

This is just the beginning of our campaign mode, we have lots of exciting additions coming!

Full Change Log
  • Added campaign mode and achievements
  • Fixed a rare issue where rebels were able run through soldier occupied zones
  • Added autosave feature when quitting a game
  • Updated Insurgent Activity minimap to better reflect takeover count and impact

  • Improved explosion effects
  • Improved logic for random HQ placement with map feature and Armchair Architect advisor
  • Improved logic for cave placement

  • General simulation performance improvements
  • Improved reputation-dependant element of budget calculation
  • New logic for when warning event fires to warn about significant local concerns
  • Minor fix to peace progress per month value
  • Fixed occasional issue where fleeing rebels would return back to a soldier occupied zone, causing soldiers-retreated reputation loss
  • Updated Road Levels minimap to display road upgrade tier per zone in the tooltip
  • Fixed fading text on Advisor screen selection
  • Added minimap filters to hotkey menu
  • Armchair Architect now places nexus where a fort would normally be place, rather than a random location in the zone
  • Fixed issue where some shaded zones on the minimap where not showing tooltips
  • Invert scrolling option added to the settings
  • Operations screen now shows what difficulty you are currently playing on
  • Reduced fluctuations in budget for economist when playing brutal and megabrutal
  • Lots of UI tweaks and improvements

Note - the campaign mode is only available in english currently. We are working hard on localising it into other languages and will update the game with them soon.

We are really excited to see you all playing this - let us know how you get on in the forums or on discord :)

Hi, I already bought the game and am mostly interested in Campaign Mode. I was waiting for this to be released/finished to start playing. I'm less interested in the multiplayer features. Is this aspect of the game feature complete and ready to play from start to finish, or should I keep waiting?

This is the level of randomization and unique elements the game really needed. The way it completely disrupts the classic meta game is really well done, and some of these modifiers legitimately shocked me in the good way, haha.

Yes! This is a great time to play Campaign mode. We do have plans to add more content but the campaign is feature complete and can be played start to finish.

I've not unlocked many advisors/commanders yet, will I be able to unlock things in the campaign (won 3 battles and nothing new so wasn't sure?)

I was impressed by the campaign mode, this totally changes the player will have to control the tactics to recover the region. You did a wonderful job here, Congrats!:steamhappy:

Why does Ndemic think crippling/handicapping the player is the only way to add intrigue? Why should the player have to clear all the scenarios with mega brutal before attempting the Campaign in order to access all the advisors?

Also, what's with the exhaustion? I mean, what?! And I get to choose a region in each "scenario" and then the next one comes up, so can I play the previous one with the other regions?

You don't have to clear on Mega Brutal to have the advisors. They are unlocked with a first-time clear with an advisor on a map, on any difficulty.

The exhaustion is part of the "Breaking the Meta" intention of campaign modifiers. Some of them can be absolutely broken for certain maps which adds an extra layer of long-term planning that the game encourages. Though at the moment some modifiers are broken in either direction, I can appreciate the design philosophy that went into it.

Hi, is there no way to save a campaign? I could only do "save and quit" and then can not try again if failed.

It isn’t possible to make multiple saves in the campaign but you can quit the game and continue it later. You won't be able to repeat campaign missions if they have failed.
