Act 3 is not well optimized and uses a lot of CPU. Maybe your CPU is to slow?

There is an option in the settings that decreases CPU load with huge crowds.

Most other settings (low <=> ultra) alter the load on the GPU which btw. also is a sign that its probably not the GPU (if it has barely any effect). Could be the CPU or some other stuff like third Party software. And if you run mods then they absolutely can cause such issues, too (and very often have in the past).

I got pretty old CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor 3.40 GHz :(
But anyways i didnt expect THIS LOW fps. Like in 3rd act its literally no matter which card to use: my old 1650 or new 4060. Same fps

Could be processor, but i noticed loss of frames when i did windows 24H2 forced update. I tried some configs, seems to work, but thst's ridiculous, game was running smooth before 24H2 even on act3 (even using A LOT of CPU). my gpu (4060) works fine, but you can clearly see it don't use too much GPU. BG3 could give options to make more use of GPU instead CPU heavy.

i have the same gpu, but paired with 5700x3d. with balanced dlss it's almost always 60fps (4k, high)

I have 6-core processor with 4060 too, but i6-12400. Almost stable 60 fps in 1080p throughout the game on ultra without frame generation. Sometimes drops to 50-55 in close up.

Oh yeah, that CPU will definitly not run the game well in Act 3.

Glad I spotted this thread as I thought it was only me having issues in Act 3 . Gots the Ryzen 7 5700 and 1660 Super Graphics Card. Game runs smooth 60fps up until Act 3 then fps start to tanks and particularly round Lower City near the sorcerer sundries.

Also researched solutions and there was mention of some mods. particularly camera mods, that could affect fps. Particularly if you tweak the mod file.

Quote :

"The game engine is just poorly optimized for the low camera angle that you have, when using WASD and Native Camera Tweaks. So what is causing the decreased FPS is the way you play with the mod, not the mod itself.

If your machine is struggling, there is a FPS mod that sets the process priority to high. You can also do that in the task manager. Maybe this helps a bit. "
Change from Vulkan to DirectX

Upgrade CPU if that doesn't work.

Act 3 has nothing to do with GPU and is a CPU issue 95% of the time.

I use AMD and play on 7800xt , I was having horrible cpu usuage until I finally figured it out!
I switched to vulkan, and I also closed the larian launcher from running in the backround. That larian launcher alone gave me around 20% cpu performance. Actually insane lol
I have much weaker gpu that you have. Old 5700xt and it gets really nice fsp!
But my CPU is rather potents 5800x3d. This game loves fast CPUs! I also have 64gb of vram, but I don`t think that it is as essential as fast CPU. All those zillions of NPCs needs prosessing power…

Undoubtedly it's the CPU, ACT 3 is CPU heavy and on top of that it's very poorly optimized. Ways to go around it with your current hardware, lower cpu heavy settings, shadows and particles for example. In addition to that, you can use frame generation to get to 60, however using frame gen with that base framerate (of 30 fps) will lead to some artifacts which might be too much depending on how sensitive you are to those. Playing the game with a controller at a locked 30 fps is also very playable.
