Weird that the Avatar of Tyranny doesn't seem to provide protection against Domination which seems like Bane's wheelhouse. The most control that Gortash seems to be able to exert on others is to cause a Restrained condition on enemies.
Elder Brains are psychic focused. The "Netherbrain" is even more-so with irresistible domination abilities that can't be countered or dispelled which are not found on the average Elder Brain.
Bane, known for his ruthlessness and emphasis on strength, would likely see failure as a weakness. Therefore, if Gortash is defeated by the elder brain, it could be interpreted as Bane allowing the natural order of strength and survival to play out, rather than intervening to protect a follower who couldn't prove their strength. Speak to the dead Gortash for more info.
Plus Bane ain't what he was; he used to be a Greater Deity but his most recent screw up has left him a quasi deity. Were the Chosen of the Gods to gather Bane's Chosen would sit at the kiddie's table.
Bane is a big deal in the DnD lore. He is teh god of tyranny, fear, and hatred.
So, after the Second Sundering, which was this massive shake-up in the pantheon, theres a huge ambiguity about where he stands. The lore isnt crystal clear, and fans have their theories.
In a universe where gods gain power through worship and the state of the world, Bane's influence could swing based on how much strife and desire for domination is going around. Its kind of like a popularity contest among the deities, where conflict and power struggles can eitehr boost or diminish a gods standing.
Bane being demoted to a quasi-deity? Thats a pretty big step down for someone who thrived on chaos and control. But, given his portfolio, theres always room for him to claw back up, especially in a world as turbulent as the Forgotten Realms.
Bane's all about exploiting that strife for power. It’s like a game of cosmic chess, and Bane's always looking for his next move. Speaking to dead Gortash will explain this a bit.
