Launcher/Game Won't Start
When I click play, Steam says the game is running for ~5 seconds, then gives up and won't open the launcher. I also tried running the game directly from the .exe. It opened the game, but went to a white screen and refused to load.

This only started after the release update.

Didn't help. Thanks anyway, though.

Want to try one more?

Start the game using the executable with Steam app off.

Still nothing. Surprised it started with Steam off, though. Most games insist on opening Steam first.

Mhm. It is because there is no DRM. But your feedback is still valuable in pinpointing the issue.

You did restart your PC as written in the guide, yes?

Then the last card I would have to play would be:

remove everything in

%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\
(copy&paste that in your Windows Explorer address bar)

except for the folder PlayerProfiles and its subfolder.

Then try again after a restart launching the bg3_dx something somewhat exe

I have the same problem since release Mine says Fossilize ERROR: Failed to parse ApplicationInfoFilter, letting recording go through. On the runlogs some people have the same problem but no solutions so far. Can't even begin playing quite sad tbh. Support says to wait until further fixes but after this second hotfix who knows

Make sure all the executable in the bin folder, and the Larian launcher's executable have "run as administrator" unchecked in the compatibility settings, in their properties.

We've been troubleshooting this for a while in the Discord, and this has now solved it for multiple people.

UNchecked? I saw several people saying I should run it as admin. Either way, I've tried it several times, both set to run as admin and not.

I am on the downloading and updating for the 6th day. Had the early release for years now and it worked fine...

I encourage you both go into the discord and see what troubleshooting has gone on in the past 18 or so hours for other people, I'm sure a lot more people have had stuff come up and found workarounds, including people from EA, who have other files on their system they had to toss out. I hear there is a folder in the documents folder that is from EA V 6? Im not from EA

Tried this, still with no luck. I'm starting to think it's not worth the effort. Might be better just to free up the 128GB.

Try verifying your game files, otherwise reinstall.

Right click the game on the left side of your steam game page, click on properties, then installed files, and click on 'Verify Integrity of Game Files.'

I've had several instances where the game crashes and then won't start back up, but verifying seems to rectify the issue. Hope this helps!

You think I haven't already tried that?

What about the updated section 4 in the guide?
