Add Randomized Loot
It's fine and dandy having certain things spawn somewhere, but having everything static really takes away from the grind.
Please, add in RNG Loot. Make certain rare items like 1 in 10 chances to 1 in 100 chances or more to obtain in the future. This early access static loot is fine and all, but for the full release PLEASE HAVE RNG !
I would LOVE to kill a random ass goblin and find something unexpected, or killing a boss and getting nothing but crap.
This alone will add how much time players will invest in replays as well as grinding out good gear.

Thoughts @Public?

Really feel the majority of you guys aren't over the age of 20.
D&D is all about being random.
Baldurs Gate originally was all about being Random.

It's simplified af for you new generations.

1. Generalizing the opponents in the discussion is a very shallow thing to do
2. You're plain wrong as I can confirm on my own example
3. Even if there were only the people of described category - it doesn't make their opinion wrong or invalid
4. I don't recall any of the major DnD games where items of importance were random (here I don't include the minor loot and some plot-related containers which had predefined value rather than the items)
5. If anything, there are instances where loot is not just "not random" - it's also tailored to the PC's class and feats. Good example will be NWN: HoU, the loot in the inn preparation containers and some other important plot chests (like dragon hoard or the hidden statue room in the Undertide)

So, "mr. Veteran" - I kindly suggest you stop riding the high horse if you hope to have a productive discussion - that's a general friendly advise, not only DnD related.

I mean... right now there is both RNG loot and non-RNG loot. I think that is a pretty good system. Some of the more important items are all in the same places every time.

Sometimes you find some random decent thing inside a barrel, like scrolls or potions, maybe if you are really lucky a piece of decent gear.

I can guarantee that all loot of consequence in the prior BG games was pre-placed. Nothing of real use was on the random loot tables.

That was 20 years ago, all series evolved along time, it's not an old school revival attempt, nor a remake.

A mix of fixed items carefully designed and RNG items bringing a small spice of variations looks fine.

If the game screw up a little it's on the design of fixed items, that tend lack of flavor, but fix that doesn't require to remove the RNG parts.

And I'm guessing you haven't even played a tabletop rpg in the last 20 years. People play tabletop rpgs to, you knoe, ROLE-PLAY, not randomly roll dice for every single part of the game regardless of logic just for the sake of rng.

You guys are literally retarded.

1) You literally said that you wanted bosses to randomly drop nothing.
2) Even a uncommon magical item like a plus one sword are considered as important item drops at levels 1-5 and every boss drops magic items with great utility like bound misty step and/or plus X damage/chances to hit. So with that context, what types of items were people supposed to assume you meant when you were talking about random drops? Do you expect goblins to randomly drop a pink longsword that did the exact same thing as a regular longsword, or do you expect them to drop a plus one longsword that gives a massive power buff to the player?

You really have to learn how to have civil discourse with people. Maybe you have gotten away with behaviour like this in other forums. Not in this one.

But yeah, I'll repeat what I said earlier. The current loot system is fine. You find most of the better items in fixed locations while RNG is there for loot in containers where you might find scrolls or potions, rarely sometimes a decent piece of gear. Sounds like you agree with that sentiment unless I have read your post wrong?

The great thing about BG3's development is that we have Solasta at the same time to see how something like random loot would influence the game. After just completing Solasta, I think random loot does nothing to enhance the experience. It can lead to some characters being flooded with gear they don't need while others have to wait +8 levels for a simple weapon upgrade. It would be much better to have equipment preplaced and balanced to trickle magic items across all classes and builds evenly.

LOL, congrat, you gifted me a good big laugh.

Common, admit you was under a ragequit effect and had to shout on something. You are like in a library, starting shouting after the books for no clear reason.

BG3 is already a combination of randomized and fixed loot - but the random stuff is just valuables.

It would be cool if they added some non-unique random loot too, like maybe a monster occasionally drops a +1 version of the weapon they are using.

Some items are too important to be randomized, these are usually the items that grant you abilities/spells or modify them somehow and should be fixed - but some items, such as consumables, scrolls, and minor magic items such as +1 weapons and silly/cosmetic items, could definitely be on a random loot table.

Considering that +1 weapons are the loot from githyanki fight (arguably the hardest encounter in the game atm), I don't think adding that on random chance is a good idea. Maybe when PC is level 10+ and has something akeen to +2/elemental damage weapons available - yes, but not before, at least in my opinion. Granting powerful items on a random chance can steer the game into drastically different direction and potentially break the encounters difficulty snowballing them more and more.
