Even as someone who doesn't have a mic, I prefer to do raids in groups where at least one or two people are using mics to coordinate or even do a ready check before starting.
I ran without mic for 2 months because I don't feel like talking. Either people were annoyed by me or just didn't care simply because I did callouts on chat and KWTD.
There are encounters that don't need communication or rolls that you can do easly. I think as someone know or are eager to listen and learn that's fine.
Note that the people doing that are the exact same ones who want matchmaking for raids or solo modes for them
In my experience, I never join a group advertising KWTD. They are usually the ones that communicate the least (even if they all have mics) and end up making things take longer, while being toxic and blaming everyone else.
I always look for chill groups as well if i do a raid.
People were also funnily enough nonstop posting 'KWTD' several hours after kings fall went live..
I grew up in an abusive household and am on the spectrum, as a result Ive been treated like crap and have been used and labeled so many times by people I thought I could trust that now I want nothing to do with socializing with other people. My whole life has been one big lesson of "you dont belong here" or just a use till you're no longer convenient to them and they throw you under the bus situation.
For some people social anxiety is really bad. Like, cant order food at a drive through without planning out 15 different scenarios of the conversation(order) to anticipate complications and hopefully avoid having any prolonged conversation. Heart rate goes up, tightness in the chest, etc.
I love Bungie games and destiny but my anxiety walls me off from other activities because there is no matchmaking in them. Again, raids and dungeons(I assume, havent tried) I get but seasonal activities, optional freelance in trials, etc seems like things that should be allowed for inclusivity as it doesnt effect the those who go in with friends in any way. Still get the usual "this game isnt for you" or "find another game then", I've completed every raid in D1 and HATED every single second that Im in a raid. Id rather do any other activity and its all down to the social aspects. Everytime somebodies friend wants to join our full group Im usually the first to volunteer to drop out because leaving that group is like being relieved of 60lbs on my chest. I did raids for the loot but after enough times if the loot glitching or just being the worst possible drops of stuff I already had I just decided it wasnt worth the stress.
I have played destiny since D1 beta and have preordered every expansion. I have literally thousands of hours in the franchise and came to destiny from Halo 3. So hearing "go find another game" when talking about matchmaking in harder difficulty activities(minus raids and dungeons) just seems like gatekeeping as matchmaking in those activities are a fair ask for inclusivity reasons imo.
Social anxiety isnt just "a little stress", it can be debilitating. Like, would rather suffer and waste away than ask someone else for help kind of debilitating.
Calm friendly groups are no less stressful than intense loud rage filled ones.
