Not a bad game at all, I have put in over 30 hours

There are a lot of people who expected a top of the line $60 game out of this. This is more like a VERY well polished and well written indy game. The combat system is tactical and is done in a 2D fashion; the storyline is good.

The voice acting is bad, the controls take a bit of getting used to, and certain missions require you to be very creative (I had to grapple a ship and drag him away from the group to even the odds a bit in one mission). The negatives aren't enough to ruin or detract from the game very much.

Overall, I am happy with the game as I felt it was money well spent.

It has been good enough that I would buy a sequel. That should tell you something. If anyone has played the old game Star Trek: Dominion Wars, this game is very similar except you can't take over enemy ships, you only kill the people inside and drag the ship to port to sell it.

I am not sure why so much hate for this game in this forum. For a low budget game its good, and so far it has been very stable. Maybe its because people think it is like freelancer or other similar space sims. It isn't, the smaller ship you can fly is a gunship and they only get bigger... controls are like Starfleet Command or Nexus. And you CAN take over enemy ships. Just drag them to a station and choose the option to replace your current ship with your new capture.
Of course it suffers the typical problems of low budget games, mostly in the sound department. Repetitive, anoying background sounds, bad voice acting, and insipid music.

Exactly right. For 60 $ I would expect and demand more. But since this is an indie game, it is actually incredible how extensive it really is. And to be honest, I had a lot of fun with it. It reminded me of Starfleet Command. Rumor says there will be a sequel with full 3D universe and more action based RPG system. If that turns out to be the truth, I'll get it for sure

Not sure how it was back then but its a fine game now. Glitches come and go (they should really try beta testing their next title) but nothing gamebreaking.
Voice acting is hilariously bad, but that's about it. I tun off the game's sounds and play my own music, makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable :)

Personally I love RPGs. All of them, and when I play them, no rock is left unturned. I did the same thing with this game and it is quite rewarding. 50 hrs into the game and still not finished the storyline. There are even a couple of sectors I still haven't visited

I'm still tying to place the accents of the voice actors... some sound semi rrussian and others sound... i dunno... czech? I mean some of the better voice acting kept the same and replacing some might work... and adding in alot more to the library of voices for combat and random radio transmissions... At least say 10 or 20 different voice profiles for combat... not all saying the same lines... and correcting some of the storyline voice acting would work wonders for this game. Not to say that I have ANYTHING against foriegn accents or the people that did the voice acting at all, theres just a few points where the voice doesn't match the text... or the voice actorrs sound a bit like they are reading lines. Also... Its a little disturbing to hear a rogue cargo cannister brag about its new arsenal... and tell me that i'll pay for shooting at it...

maybe should stage an online 1v1 tournement, with a prize at the end, and have the opponents get into a recorded teamspeak channel... for combat banter... and then sift thru all the recordings for the best voice profiles offering prizes for the people's voice profiles that you use? That way you getting a greater variety of voices, lots of samples, and more realistic emotional reactions fom the pilots when you blast away half their hp in 1 shot...

Also could have a little contest for voice actors for the storyline, let them improv a little so the voice and exactly what and how its said matches the speakers culture and background...

My only real issue with the game is the ending or lack thereof. Took me going through the forums to figure out that I had actually beat the game and wasn't just waiting for another mission.

"freelancer or other similar space sims." Sorry but Freelancer is not a sim game at all, that was a really bad example . Sim games in space such Glcivs etc I think you meant. Aside from that lol
I used to play and mod for Starfleet Command 3 a long long time ago now,turned based strat game, where as dominion wars was a lot more flowing, apparently similar to G1. I bought G2 on a whim, and got *G1 free while G2 is in alpha state*, which I've never played. I noticed it had popped up out of nowhere into my games list the other day.will give it a good go.

I agree. The game deserves a better score than 46 on metacritic. The user score is a bit closer to reality, though I'd give the game an 8. The voice acting is terrible, but the gameplay is good and the story is good. There are a few rough edges here and there but I think it's a good game over all. I haven't encountered any bugs so far. I suppose most are fixed by this point.

Agree on most parts, seems that there are only 2 sides - love it or hate it, it gave me 50 or so hours of fun. And I don't wanna even start on Metacritic and its "score" on games in general. Been reading through the sites they use to make a general score there are sites that read 12 people, nuff said.
