Toning Down AI in Single-Player/Campaign
Is there a way to make the AI not have extreme accuracy. I've looked online at settings to change in the config file in Arma3profile, specifically precisionEnemy, but that seems to been omitted since the Beta, cause that entire section of code is gone.

Any help?

Thanks! Much appreciated!

have you had much experience with any of the other ARMA's? Yeah ive noticed the Ai are much tougher in ARMA 3. Definately quicker adn react faster. Its hard to get your guys in position before they are completely toast. It wasnt to bad in ARMA 2. I could kind of put them on a level that i could handle most of the time.

What are they like on easy? actually i might go and check it out now myself and see what they are like.

heres a video i did to help or at least give some tips to people that want to play ARMA 1,2 or 3 in single player, but find it really complicated, the movement and Ai commands on the map are relevant to ARMA 3 also. Best thing ive found is have the game on recruit so you can see the units on the map and control them from there. Kind of like a Real time strategy game like Company of heroes / X-COM/ real time FPS.

Its stupidly hard to get the right targets quickly on anything harder than recruit in real time and its even harder if you cant see the units on the map.

Id really like Bohemia to work on a much more responsive tactical interface when using the Ai and the targeting system. Like when you push the #2 key, the top guys to target SHOULD i think be the most open and the closest to your guys. So its easier to quickly target enemies. Its really complicated lol. When its only a few guys your targetting its great. But its starts to get confusing when you have more than 5-8 enemies in the area (or more) at different distances using the #2 key for targetting.

I love using the map for targetting in ARMA 1 and ARMA 2, but i am finding it more difficult to get it right in ARMA 3.

Yes there is a way, get yourself an AI mod. I use FFIS http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=22096 it makes the battles far more believeable, AI isn't so aimbot-like.

Edit: Also I read this mod or others like it might disrupt the campagin, I use it playing DUWS mission.

Some of the user comments complain that it seems like both sides are more guerrila-like than trained forces. Could you care to expand on what FFIS does?

Well I haven't done any specific tests but the main thing I noticed is that it makes the battles last longer and the AI accuracy isn't so over powered, so that's why I use it.

Unless I am totally wrong here, you can go to difficulty settings and lower precision down. All I know is that I set their skill up to .90 and thier precsion to .45. Getting alot of near misses. But if I stay put with no cover they will hit me. So either its all in my head or its what I was after personally.

I can say the ai accuarcy issue is much improved over arma 2 and 1. In arma 1 they really did 1 shot you 70 percent of the time. Only MG's where near misses usually. In this set to regular or veteran it usually take them between 4 and 40 shots to zap me. But at 200 meters under combat conditions shooting standing 99 percent of humans can not hit their target in 1 shot. Maybe on try 7 or 8 if they are good. If they suck then vary unlikley.

I would play with the precision slider under custom. Maybe set to .10 and then to .90 and see if I am crazy.

You're not crazy. Adjusting precision does affect their accuracy.

Can you guys give me step by step instructions on how to do this. And thanks to Emton, trying out your mod suggestion now!

Some other mods that I consider to be "must have" would be:

Blood Mist (adds some blood spray when someone gets hit)

JSRS (better sounds)
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=22150

Blastcore (better explosions)

Midrange terrain texture replacement (better landscape textures)

A3MP (more maps)

Thanks for the list! By the way, is there a way to make mods "Active" only for SP? Everytime I log onto a Mutli server a key signing error occurs, and it gets annoying when I have to activate and deactivate mods over and over again.

Set AI skill to novice in the difficulty options. That's all you need to do to get balanced AI.
IcyTorrent May 20, 2014 @ 11:06am
Instead manually activating mods under expansions have two different launchers for Arma. One of which has the mods activated and one that doesn't.

Just add a launch parameter for the shortcut that you want the mods on. The parameter will look like this "-mod=@mod_name;@mod_name2;@mod_name3;@mod_name4;@mod_name5"

I'm doing a bad job of explaining this, but its explained in all the mods listed above so if you don't understand what I'm saying look there. Hope I helped.

Hi all,

Ive not played the ARMA series since the original flashpoint was released, I picked up Arma 3 during the sale and tried the single player campaign last night.

Ive found the AI to be abit too quick locating you at extreme range and also sniper accurate- so this post is a real bonus to stumble across!

I'm wondering if anybody has a idea what the preset values for the AI are on each difficulty level and also what they found to help balance the game under custom?

Thanks
