Valve Index Controllers

Valve Index Controllers

Suggestion: Market individual controllers for non-VR use.
OK, so, I got a "weird set-up" when it comes to FPV games like Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and GMod that other PC gamers may scoff at me for.
And I'm talking in PC general, nothing to do with VR.

In my right-hand, I use the mouse to aim and shoot with.
In my left-hand, I hold a game controller. Given my other hand is occupied, I only use half the controller. The right-analogue stick for movement and on the D-pad, up for "E-use" and down for flash-light. Pressing in the analogue stick for sprinting and I re-assign the shoulder-button for jump and shoulder-trigger for crouching.

The reason for this is I acknowledge the mouse as superior means to look, aim and shoot with than with an analogue stick which may not be as responsive or accurate, I still regard movement with analogue stick superior than WASD. It feels more responsive and I feel I have more maneuver than I would with WASD. And while holding a whole controller in a single hand is a bit cumbersome, it's still a bit more comfortable than hand over a keyboard.

My suggestion:
Sell individual Valve Index Controllers separately, for regular PC gaming.

Customers can choose either a right or left Valve Index Controller (for whenever they're other-handed) and comes with a USB wireless receiver to allow it for PC use.

Even without a D-pad, the A and B buttons can be assigned for E-use or flashlight. I understand it's just a trigger and no shoulder-button, but perhaps finger-flicking or jolting the controller can be used to control jumps?

This will leave the other hand free for the mouse, to allow looking around, aiming, shooting and the use of the scroll-wheel for changing weapons.

At least, I would find it useful. And I believe some PC gamers would be willing to give it a try over keyboard given how responsive and comfortable it would be.
It would practically be getting the best of both worlds. mouse for first-person view and Valve Index Controller for movement and actions.

The only additional effort it would take on VALVe's part would be:
  • To manufacture USB receivers to allow Valve Index Controllers to be used on PC.
  • Update Steam's Controller Configurations to recognise Valve Index Controllers as a PC controller that users may configure for various games.
