Devs openly admitted the game got pushed out early and apologized. The roadmap they put out claims we'll be getting thr first massive update in December.
More scratches, woo....
A new enemy type that takes forever to spawn, woo.......
Triggers finally here I guess that we don't need yet, woo...........
You can now change the form of the mag that follows you, woo...............
Mission pass that is cheaper but less generous, woo........................
Surveys that said "Why you no spend MONEY!?" like they didn't know, woo................................
Slightly less lag I guess, cool.
New urgent quest that is a mining defense, cool I guess.
New weapon series, cool I guess.
You can now get personal shop pass for free in mission pass, pretty neat I guess but one?
They finally took action against players and bots abusing red boxes for money, cool.

I'm still waiting for:
Personal quarters
Titles
Team personal quarters
Casino
Better characters with text that doesn't sound like robots trying to be human, so bland!
A quest counter that contains many types of quests like challenge quests, or hardmode sort of things.
MORE things in this empty "Open world" give it more LIFE this is why I don't like open world games that often because no one can make it work.
Only consolation is that instances max out at 32 instead of all of us sharing the same boring world and fighting for loots/levelling spots like those lame old school mmos out there.
No matter how "hardcore" you are, no games can hold anyone down if you don't have friends playing with you or at minimal other players you can happily interact with. There's only so much content one person can consume, albeit PSO2:NGS has not much content ATM but it's F2P and you are not pressured by monthly payments and fear of missing out for not paying for content updates/expansions. There is also base PSO2 with 8 years of content(Fundamentally, it also went through 4~8 major updates to reach that point).
Even 60 bucks "AAA" games, most only consume about 10 hours or so of content and then no more updates until paid contents either as DLC, season pass or in some cases monetization like battle pass.... Either you repeat that 10 hours ad nauseam or move on.

We won't know what we'll get until its out. Recent dev talk definitely showed they're adapting to what people want for gameplay.
Also cosmetic designers and content designers are two separate teams. Scratches take little time to make while content takes months to make. Acting as if they're the same is ignorance on game design.
Might just be a game I come to twice a year to do the story then put on the shelf if that is the plan.
We've known the roadmap since the launch of the game. What they've revealed on the roadmap we've received as the dates passed.
With attitudes as useless as this it really is no wonder why they're closing down their forums and only using Discord/Reddit for official feedback.
The most recent NGS Headline (at the time of this post) had a segment where Hiro Arai mentioned and apologized for the lack of awareness regarding the confusion of the game's roadmap which was discussed before New Genesis was released but had not yet been referenced or talked of until that point in the Headline.
I don't think a roadmap is a particular bad idea in general to see what is planned and what might come around considering how volatile software development can be but where I do see it as problematic is when you get something like Sega's handling of it which is very barren and yet still so cryptic for the most part (for example "Title System" but not detailing how it works or what players can expect). It was also addressed that after this Winter Update's roadmap concludes that the development team will change gears and adjust their development patterns accordingly to be more in line with the original game's update schedules.
My main hope is that Sega can go back to doing what they used to do and discuss further features or demonstrate those features and content for new players or for players who are around because it came as a surprise to me that Mags can be freely changed to all forms you have registered (it still does not work this way in the original Phantasy Star Online 2) - and I feel it would have gotten the attention of others if this change was communicated or even advertised. In the literal sense of things, we were presented trailers for the Braver and the Bouncer and then given slideshow presentations on what exactly we saw as if it was an immediate recap - no further depth added or any further input than the sort of sterile "please be excited" response. I would juxtapose this with the demonstrations and reveal of the Etoile and the Luster when their episodes in the PSO2 Station featured not just gameplay but also the developers playing and demonstrating what those classes were capable of and what their main features were.
Whether you decide to drown with a sinking ship or finding a boat (Another game) to save yourself from the trouble of sinking into the waters that is disaster that the game hints on going with no determined future, go for it.
For the moment I'll just wait and see but if I see enough that it'll always be a disaster with every mistake that keeps piling on, then we as players had seen our Answer and we'll hold off on putting our money where it will burn with no returns for it.
Sega handling PSO2 better pull themselves together because players want to be assured their game that they love won't turn to ♥♥♥♥.
People said pso2 was a sinking boat and looked how that turned out. Claims can be made, but PSO has shown to survive against those who deem it dead. Hence why I'm not worried nor falling for the "game is going to shut down" crap because PSO history says it literally won't.
You misunderstood which I think wasn't very clear about, its not about the fear of shutting down... its the fear of the game being not so fun anymore, its about the game not being as functional anymore, its about the game no longer BEING a Phantasy Star anymore.
Players want a game that is fun and what they can love to enjoy playing not some game that makes them feel like their on copium while being told all the time that it'll shut down because these are real people who said the game is going to shut down (Even if its not true) but its telling that the game is not in a very good place.
We just want better services, better respect and they will GET our money if we can simply trust them to respect their customers.
Look at w0w its not shutting down but they surely had lost a lot of respect from the fans and players then feeling good about themselves moving to FF feeling young again (Or something like that), the game won't shut down but it won't be the same anymore.
I just don't want that happening with PSO2.
At least that I have seen, this was so much of the Japanese version because it swings up and swings down so often in the midst of development. I definitely would have preferred something more solid and something more "meaty" provided in the first place but I don't know how much more lamenting we can have when the Japanese version was already in limbo for so long because Sega already pulled the ropes and let the playerbase coast and shrink along until their next major update that still got delayed and delivered undercooked.
Considering the direction Phantasy Star Online 2 has gone, there is so much the game has done and gone through that I feel it is definitely under that "too big to die" umbrella over on the Japanese side that I think it is easy to see why people trust Sega with Phantasy Star Online 2 especially when you take into account what the games before it has done. I am still curious to see where Sega goes and how they decide to go forward but I do agree with your skepticism about how much better things can get from where they are. Regardless of whether or not Sega does try anything, players are already in a place where they seem willing to take anything such as how fast the Global players were able to say Sega turned things around when the Bouncer released (following updates mentioned on the Roadmap) or how the Japanese players in general still seem skeptical of what is to come because of how foreign New Genesis is to them compared to the original game.
I do not know if I mentioned it here before, but I have found myself enjoying this game the most when you can treat it like a side-gacha game in the sense that you play the game because you can make your own goals, you push yourself to the extent you want, and then you return to doing as you were before. I never have found myself desiring to seek to control aspects of the game (such as the markets or having the ultimate gear at the time) because the game has always evolved and held a hand out to carry over new and returning players to jump in. It's a very "inclusive" game in that sense where you get rewarded for being along for the ride and that you don't need to try too hard to be acknowledged in that sense either. I don't play Final Fantasy XIV, for example, but I know of several others who would play Final Fantasy XIV and grind out the content there and then cycle back to Phantasy Star Online 2 to play and grind out the content there at the time before Final Fantasy XIV's next update or expansion comes around and they hop back to that. I don't see it as Sega looking to "compete" with anything regarding Phantasy Star Online 2 since they do have something very unique - but in its current state I really do wish New Genesis would have been turning over a new leaf rather than re-exploring aspects, controversies, and problems we have had in the past and especially ones that are still rooted in the past.
