What is the best pre hardmode mage class armor

Jungle is technically better for mages using things like Water Bolt, Diamond Staff, and the like. If you have materials for the Space Gun, and you think it's a mage weapon, then Meteor is better for you. Ancient Cobalt is also the same as Jungle armor, just looks different. Until you get a set of those, some good options are Gem Robes or the Travelling Merchant outfit(forget what it was called, Gi? Kimono?)

I always use the Wizard Hat, Diamond Robes (not sure if better robes), and the Meteor boots. You get set bonus for the Hat and Robes, the Meteor boots for the little extra damage.

well i dont consider it a mage armor but the Meteor Armor , just craft that and a Space Gun and you are good ,,,,you won't even need mana stars

for pre hardmode i use jungle armor but if you like to use the space gun than make the meteor armor
