How do boss rewards in multiplayer work?
So me and my brother defeated the giant eye a couple of times. The first time I grabbed everything that fell, then he grabbed them the second time. We recently decided to fight the brain. About 3/4 of the way through the fight, I died. However, my brother was able to finish the fight and collect the rewards. I didn't get any rewards except a little from the creepers I destroyed. My brother was nice enough to split the ore with me;he kept everything else (which is fine, he did most of the fighting ).

So is that how it works, a bunch of people can be fighting the boss, but whoever is closest to the drops gets them while everyone else loses out? Seems a bit unfair and I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Thats how it works in normal mode. In expert, though a treasure bag drop for everyone, and each person can only see theirs and can't pick up other people's.

Yeah, this is normal mode for you. One set of loot for all to share. It's the biggest reason I suggest playing expert mode to anyone I play Terraria with. Because in Expert mode, anyone who participated in a boss fight will get a treasure bag of their own.

(just elaborating. I know you are already aware of this, Night)
The boss difficulty also scales up, so that a team of 5 people doesn't end up killing the boss in less than 5 seconds. Another thing I noticed, is the difficulty does not scale directly with the number of players. For instance, if 2 players are fighting a boss that has 5,000 health, then (in my experience) the boss tends to have around 8k to 9k instead of 10k. The extra loot (I say extra because some bosses drop materials, and you get another round of materials per treasure bag) is also good because it means you don't have to fight the boss as many times to gear everyone up.

Also, mobs like zombies scale with game progression as well.

Thanks for the info. I just started playing a week ago so I'm not ready yet to tackle expert.

Thanks, but I only play with people in real life for personal preferences and safety reasons.
