How to backup your Terraria world and characters

I've been seeing people talk about how their worlds and characters are randomly getting deleted. If this has not happened to you yet I recommend you do the following.

1. Go to your home screen and right-click, press New and create a new folder
2 Go to your documents
3. Go to Documents>My Games>Terraria>Worlds
4. Find the world(s) you do not want to get deleted, Right-click that world folder and press Copy
5. Go to the new folder you made in step 1 and press Paste, a copy of your world should now be in the folder so if it get's deleted you can just drag the copy in your World folder.



[Character Backup]


1. Make a new folder or use the one you put your backup world in
2. Go to your Documents
3. Go to Documents>My Games>Terraria>Players
4. Find the Character(s) you would like to keep, Right-click that player folder and press Copy
5. Go to the folder you made in step 1 and press Paste, your copy of that character should now be in the folder.

Thanks, not a bad idea with all the people complaining about wipes. My entire Terraria folder in MyDocuments was only 108 megs even though it had a *lot* of worlds and players. Might as well just back up the entire thing.

So when i backup my worlds, the backup wont stay updated. So do i just constantly re-backup my players and worlds?

Thanks for that but my first world got deleted and I have a backup but how do I get it to work? Because its not working for me.

Well that didn't work. Also do you want to know the most saddest and most annoying part about losing it is that its got all my stuff on it. But I did get free harpy wings and the true nights edge for free before hard mode lol

Looks like characters and worlds must be not in cloud to perform local backup.

Well I actually got terror today when I was streaming in Twitch(I'm not a big streamer),and I thought 'can't I backup my worlds in Terraria?' and I searched something in internet. This was really helpful for me. Thank you.

Note that for this to work, You must turn off Steam Cloud saving for Terraria.

Characters and worlds stored on Steam's cloud servers cannot be backed up manually. You'll need to get your characters off the cloud servers (if that's even possible), and then disable Cloud.

If you disable Cloud with characters or worlds still on the Cloud, those characters and worlds will be gone until you re-enable Cloud.
