Need tips for Duke Fishron
So i am aprox 190 hours in the game (ikr) and i am ready for duke fishron! Just assume that i have everything you can possibly obtain (without any of the events, haloween or frost night) before Duke Fishron, i need a great strategy. Should i build some sort of area, a walkway above the ground, should i use shroomite hover board or flame wings? Should i go with the shark rifle and spray clorophyte bullets or should i use magic for this one? I am sure i can defeat him in some way, but i am still nervous since i really really want to beat this guy on the first try, so i want to be 100% prepared for him before i go fishing with the strange shroom worm.

Don't really need an arena, just have some decent wings and water-walking boots. I'd recomend melee - Vampire Knives are good to have as well as a Terra Blade. Just fly up and away from him, every time he pauses in mid-air, fly to the other side of him and drop down to the water and then fly up and away again. Stay out of the water - that is Duke's territory. Almost all his attacks are easy to avoid though the occasional sharknado might surprise you on landing. Keep hitting him with the Terra Blade and swap to Vampire Knives when you're down to 350 - 400 hp. Should be dead within 120 seconds. If you get the Flairon from him, use that - it completely trivializes him.

Thanks i'll try that. Vampire knifes made the temple guy completely worthless, i hope i can beat duke with it aswell. I think i'll try tonight. Thank you.

Nope, did exactly like you said but he still raped me. He was easy until his second stage where his attacks get one hundred thousand percent more intense, and he completely raped me even thou i tried to shoot him and the sharks with the vampire knifes, it just didnt help, it kept me alive couple seconds more but i stood no chanse what so ever against his second stage.

Just went to fight him with my Pre-Duke loadout. Damage output is very low even with a Terra Blade so the key to the fight is dodging - later you can just overpower him with his Flairon. Unless he is switching to a new stage, or rev'ing for a special move he will always be chasing after you. I take him into the air and like I said I do great looping arcs over him... so say I'll be moving up and to the left, he will be chasing me like a bolt. You will notice that he has to gather himself for a moment before taking off after you again. When he gathers himself I fly over to his other side and I let off my wing power and plummet, so now he chases me again while I'm still moving at full speed down. Both going up and coming down, I keep him on a straight trajectory so the Terra Blade is constantly ripping through him. As I land, I run to his other side and take off again, continually keeping him in a loop. You'll have to vary it a bit when you need to dodge sharknados but they are easy to avoid. Once you have Duke's wings you can even take him into the water for an even greater loop (His wings act like a flipper potion.)

Also, I'm assuming you are doing this already but will mention it anyway - bring a max dps accessory set. You only need the water-walking and flight so you're free to throw on an Avenger's Emblem/Destroyer Emblem/Warrior's Emblem/Celestial Stone (All reforged to Menacing) in the other 3 slots. Should be critting in the 450 - 500 range. And of course potions, I'm assuming you are using them as well but just in case, flask of ichor, food, ale, ironskin, swiftness, regeneration plus any others you enjoy.

If all else fails, slap on the shroomite and whip out a megashark with a stack of chlorophyte bullets. But even in this instance it will still come down to dodging. Best bet is to spend a few extra minutes and get 10 or so truffles and make a house on the beach for respawns and just practice dodging him. Once you can lead him around by the nose he becomes no challenge at all.

Good luck and wow... sorry about the wall!

Thank you both for the replies. I'll try the beach house thing, those worms are quite hard for me to catch since i am not a great player and my reflexes arent that good either.Thank you for the eq and pots tips, i'll be sure to take my time to make my character absolutely perfect for this particular boss fight, and hopefully i'll finish him off soon enough. I don't get around to play terraria that much anymore,i thought it was a huge hole in the game when you are deep down in caves and you build a nice house and get npcs to move in, all that and then there is a giant hole where you have to take down the mech bosses and stuff, i think all the bosses are incredibly overpowered and should be nerfed down completely, but again, i am not a great player at games compared to others who have no problem what so ever to complete what i try over and over and over and over and over.

Build this:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=303352533

Just build a little 3 space platform, stand on it and then hollow out everything around you. Keep the bottom space about... 4 - 5 blocks under the screen. That way you can't see anything spawning. You want to keep the top level in view to prevent spawning - you will get occasional spawns when you swoop down for truffles though. Those awful blue flowers that shoot through walls will rise up from the floor you can't see. So just keep culling them and that will be the "checking every 30 seconds" bit. The truffles have nowhere to hide and you can get about 1 - 2 per minute. Just be wary - an underground Mushroom Biome is not very hospitable. The Chlorophyte is optional, I just happened to build my Truffle farm around my already existing Chlorophyte farm. I highly recomend this formation though as it yields about 40 - 45 Chlorophyte every hour or so. It will grow on one end as you harvest the other. :)

Think of it as two games in one. There's the fighting game and the building game. If you just want to build, don't kill the Wall of Flesh. I have a crafting world "Homestead" that is nothing but custom-themed npc homes and large architectural projects - I don't want hardmode screwing that up.

And you said it yourself - you don't have the time to play much. Those "great" players just have the time to play a lot. I can sit here for 8 hrs a day, so of course I'll know Fishron's patterns better than you. Don't be so hard on yourself. Just give yourself short term goals. Next time you get a chance to log in, build that mushroom farm. Check. Then, the next time, spend an hour farming truffle worms - you won't be bored as you will be under constant attack, can walk away with some items and usually 1 - 2 platinum. Next time, learn Fishron's patterns, dedicate half your worms to just learning his attack patterns and playing keepaway with him. After that just keep throwing yourself at him, dedicating yourself to his defeat and his wings being on your back.

I'm sure you'll get him. Sigh.... another wall.

I used scourge of the devourer or whatever it's called and flew back and forth with my hoverboard + frog legs, had a flask of ichor running to lower his def and had hp regen, ironskin, and swiftness on the whole time. I failed the first four times so I added a few heart lamps on my double sky bridge (with wooden planks so i could fall through and avoid the tornadoes) and a few honey pools and campfires around just to keep max hp running at all times. It was rough but I finally got him tonight!

I build a long high up walkway with wooden platforms, about 200-300 wooden platforms long. It should be high enough to be able to keep above his sharknadoes but low enough that you can reach it easily with your wings. I use vampire knives and keep beetle armor with the scale mail to fight him. It's important to have master ninja gear, as the dodging effect from the tabi make avoiding his charges and flying sharks much easier. I also like to use a charm of myths for the decreased potion cooldown and i don't use it anymore but an ice turtle shell may help you to stay alive if you hit that low health. Also before the fight eat a bowl of soup, an ironskin potion, restoration potion, etc... whatever potions can help you. My strategy for fighting him is fly and use the tabi to dodge his dashes while throwing vampire knives at him. In his first stage the sharknadoes will pass through the wooden platforms and hit the ground which makes them easy to avoid as you'll be over top of them and will just have to watch out for the sharks. In his second stage the sharknadoes will not pass through the platform so it's best to try to make sure you get below the platform before the little bubble hits you so the sharknado spawns on the ground and not on the platform, but if it does spawn on the platform it's no biggie. In that case just go down to the ground and stay below the sharknado to avoid it until he fires the next one. The entire time you're doing this spam the vampire knives at him and use a greater healing potion at any point your health falls 150 points or more. I can beat him consistantly using this strategy. It's even easier once you've gotten the duke fishron wings and have practiced him a lot of times. I don't even use health or buff potions anymore. i just repeatedly cast my rod and kill him, rinse and repeat now.
