The fire boss is pretty horrible.
I don't understand what I'm supposed to do.

Am I supposed to hide behind the pillar? Then why does he keep teleporting behind me? What if I'm on the other side of the room and he starts fireballing the whole room?

Am I supposed to circle strafe? Then why are there blocks blocking my way?

If he is going to constantly do Area of Effect the whole room and always Damage over time, don't we get any way to heal, at all?

I have a legendary bow that carried me all the way to here, but it's pretty useless in a fight where I have to strafe all the time. So, do you want me to start again from the very beginning or not? The game told me the bow is legendary and worth 3500 gold. Is the game lying to me about its worth?

Having to do a 10 to 20 minute room fight with 50 monsters before this boss is pretty horrible. You say you don't want this game to be grindey. Then, why am I repeating this map over and over to try getting a level 2 gun, since I can't bring a level 2 gun with me from map to map?

It's good challenge the player with one or two of these things, but all of those is pretty lame.

The fire boss is too hard. He'll be toned down when we update with episode 2.

With that said, you can definitely do it, just like everyone else has.

Hiding behind the pillar is the easiest strategy. If he teleports behind you, just go on the other side of the pillar. There's a very clear teleporting sound when he does it.

You can kill this boss with any weapon, but if you need a level 2, just a little tip, trap rooms always contain a level 2 and every level has a trap room.

Thanks! Sorry, I know game balancing can't be easy! As a dev, you know the game inside and out, while others don't. And even if you get testers, what's easy for one person is hard for someone else.

Absolutely. But like I said, this one is definitely too hard. We're going to be adding difficulty settings in the future too, but I don't want it to be just a slider, I want to gamify it.

Path of Exile does something along those lines. You can spend in-game currency to upgrade maps, which are the end game content. This makes the maps harder, but the maps also then drop more loot. So, the player ends up doing a balancing act between making the map hard and rewarding, but not too difficult, where you die and have a loss (experience loss in that game's case).

I was negative before, so I wanna say a few really positive things about your game, too.

- I love the Sucker Punch vibe of the game! It's cool that we have a female protagonist, and we don't get to see them be heroically tragic very often.
- I think you strike a really nice balance between not quite rogue-like where you have to start from the beginning, but rogue-like enough that the variety is always fresh.
- The loot system is really cool. The item tiers and mods really keep me engaged, but it's not too complex. Some mods, like blood ammo, really change how items work. The elemental damage is really well thought out, too. It's not just damage of another name. Fire damage is damage over time, so it helps peek-a-boom tactics. Ice is good for slowing down enemies. If you can improve your electric damage, you can lure people into rivers and zap them to hell. I use the fire bow to reach enemies behind fences, since the fire blast can occur over the fence's height.
- Lastly, I became pretty interested in a gameplay choice you made; There's no sandbox mode. You cannot stay behind and over-level or gather more loot, like in Dark Souls. Instead, you made your game like FTL or Dead Cells; the player is constantly pushed into harder and harder content. I think this is a really interesting, because it forces the player to make do with the limited resources they semi-randomly have. This gives the player an appreciation for loot, even common level loot.

I had so much trouble with this boss for a long time, but I managed to get past him by getting lucky with a nightmare reaper bottle spawn.
If you get the potion duration boost ability, you can save the potion until right before the boss zone.
Go in after grabbing it, and burn him down with the alt-fire of the weapon.
It melts even him.

If he survives, and he could, you shoot him down with whatever weapon you can use.

Also, bow is pretty cool, but I will always enjoy this legendary Double-barrel shotgun that fires absurdly fast. Kills that boss dead fast.

Also, I could be wrong, but I think head shots do extra damage, so arrows into his face work well.

is the boss supposed to be hard? I just spammed the second attack of the shock book (the one that creates a floating orb) and the boss practically killed itself.

That's weird. Either the Shock book was bugged out, or something else happened, because this boss is by no stretch ever considered an easy fight.

The fight is hellish hard.

I'm not lying, seriously i think he got stun locked or something, he tried to spam a sea of flames every now and then but for the most part the floating orbs kept zapping him until he dropped dead. hell i think it was the last achievment i got barely minutes ago

You got really lucky. I don't know how else to describe it.

Mr. Stompy slamming man is actually pretty reasonable. You can trap him on the lower area a lot, allowing you to poke him from a distance with ease. His attacks are also much more easier to deal with than the fire boss.

That and if you had like a rocket launcher or something, that could help too.
Just lead him on a wild goose chase, and he ends up pretty easily defeated.

Got lucky on my run for the first playthrough, had reflection and slow motion power up next to his room. He litteraly spawned and he died just after.

Wow. I know the Ice Book really is strong, but that's a heck of a cool combo.
I found him a pretty normal boss. Although he got me off guard the first time, but 2nd try i wrecked him.
