Enemies feel like sponges
Even early on, anything above a normal enemy feels like a damage sponge. This means they just eat and eat damage. I was playing a build trying to focus around the train and it just feels like the train basically does no damage. Yes I'm aware of how it functions before anyone asks, and yes the enemies were in the radius.

Early on, it's ok for builds to do a lot of damage without item investment. That's why scaling on skills is a thing. Hell, that's why enemies get harder. To make it so you have to invest in stats to keep up.

Even just a flat damage increase across the board could be good, because from what I've heard, the end game feels just the same with damage not feeling enough against enemies.

Sounds like padding to me. Would make more sense if the enemy types and behavior would actually offer gameplay variety but this game leans more toward Path of Exile's "stuff just runs straight at you and swing/shoot".

HP sponges with boring mechanics is one hell of a bad combination for a video game. Torchlight II's higher difficulties get a little bit sponge-y as well but at least it has unprecedented variety in enemy unit types, which makes you have to think on your feet all the time based on the combination of enemies you come across in each encounter.

there are a lot of issues that go into play when it comes to the design of monsters. some are obvious while others dont show unless you do a little research. For example, the monsters are still the same ones from the free to pay model that the game initially had when it was Frontiers and not TL3. These monsters were not suppose to scale. Plus the progression in F2P is always slow. Which makes enemies very sponge like and big walls that you usually are forced to pay to get through. Normally the scale with skill dmg should be 1:1 but right now it feels like 1:100. And that is just some of the problems this game has.

They already said during a twitch podcast, before Tl3 was even available through EA, that the railmasters train doesnt feel good and that they will rework it.

I guess they had more important stuff to do until this point, but i´m pretty sure the rework will come before the game gets fully released.

Yeah this still feels similar to, if not exactly like, Frontiers. And frontiers was incredibly disappointing for me personally.
I enjoyed this game to a point, but I feel like at least in the early stages, all skills should at least feel decent and not like you could binge an entire season of Supernatural before stuff dies.

It's Frontiers but you get to pay 30$ for the privilege of playing a free-to-play game! How long do you think they'll keep on the facade before launching free-to-play as originally intended? A year or two maybe?

I'm sure they'll gently tap the paying players on the head too with a cool 30$ worth* of super cool skins for the game!

* (prices are based on virtual currency they make up themselves and freely decide how much is worth)

i played all the chars... and when i say all... i have at least 2 differents versions of each... i reached the max of chars possible 10/10

i have only 1 railmaster... focused on the train... it s my favorite char i love it.

Tukkek: doesn't play the game, has no idea what they're talking about, but supposedly hates the game so they hang out on the TL3 forum. Checks out.

Yeah the train just feels to weak. I would also like at least 2 more train carts

There will be zero MTX. It always amazes me how much of the community said "Make the game B2P and make a TL3"... then flips to "I have to buy the game?! what?!" It's early access, they're still actively trying to adjust / improve the game. I'm guessing a lot more people will be playing when there are no more wipes planned.

If the game goes free-to-play after a year or two, you don't think there will be MTX?

I don't expect it'll go F2P at any point. The rest of the series is b2p, so I expect since they switch TL3 to b2p, it'll stay b2p.

I don't ever really picture it swapping back to that system.

You've certainly got a very short-sighted imagination, in that case... it's not hard at all to picture.
Fox Jul 17, 2020 @ 3:05pm
Imagewise, going from free to play, to pay to play, back to free to play would look pretty bad imo. The fan base made it pretty clear that they were wanting a pay to play game. Is it 100% impossible that they swap back? I guess not? Is it incredibly unlikely, I'd wager so.

"Would look too bad"? That hasn't stopped the devs from launching a 40% score Early Access game for 30$ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ or has it?
