It's hard
Tower defense games can be really hard until you figure out the meta, and I'm having problems with this one. Is there a way to idle a lane while I work on the other? Because once that lane starts going downhill I lose both of them and end up getting 2 skulls at the end of the level when I could've simply just played easy mode for that without and problems. I could use some advice on what traps to use and how to place them, should I group them or split over the map. Thanks.

To keep it short:
- use barricades to close off all ways and let only one way open for the enemies (sometimes you only need 1 barricade to close off a 2 unit wide way if you place it in the middle)

- build a kill zone on the remaining open way. Near the end of the game you can build something like that: swing mace across the way, 3 tar jars under it, 2 barricades before and behind the mace to create a 3 unit wide way the enemies have to walk, 1-2 spring traps behind the killzone to push back ogres (in combination with the in-mission-upgrades from the weavers). Such a killzone can destroy normal orcs and ogres without your help.

- use the surroundings, many maps have deadly fire, acid pits. Equip the wind ring, close off the way with 2-3 barricades and some tar traps. The enemies will concentrate on one point and you can push them in the pits for instant kills. In one mission the enemies come from 2 sides to the dungeon heart, in the room with the dungeon heart is a pit. Just put down 4 barriaces, 2 on each side to create a single way to the heart and on the opposite site is the pit where you can push them down.

- place some archers / turrets to destroy flying enemies in later missions. The frost ring can create an explosion with right button to destroy swarms of flying enemies in one hit

- learn the mission spawns, especially in the later missions you face multiple doors from different paths. Remember from where the attacks start and place the first traps in the right places

- sell traps and build new killzones, barricades in later waves of a mission. In one mission for example the enemies come from 3 sides to the central dungeon heart but with a bit of money you can create a ring of barricades around the dungeon heart and place a single killzone at the side where the enemies have to walk through,

- most useful traps are tar traps, barriaces and for damage in the order they unlock: arrow wall < wall blades < grinder and pounder < swing mace

-enemies:
-- normal orcs / small units dies in killzone, push them back in your killzone/pits with wind ring
-- flying enemies: shoot them yourself or archers / turrets / frost or lightning ring
-- ogre: push them back with weaver upgrade in your killzone
-- hunter: push them back with wind ring / pick them up with wind ring and deposit them in deadly pits or in your killzone
-- suicide bomber: try to kill them before they get to your barricades

Thanks a lot, I never really tried to use barricades to block off a certain path as I thought it's going to get destroyed instantly.

an upgraded swinging mace trap with tar traps under it can deny almost every mob except ogres/dogs

Two Swinging Maces (upgraded) with tar under them will stop all ground (walking) mobs except Ogres... and massed kobolds.

This simple setup can be used in a great deal of maps. If swinging mace traps cant be used then....

Use tar and lots of archers.

You want to cluster your traps/guardians onto a chokepoint(small area). So that only rarely does something get through. it used to be referenced as a 'kill box' in this game. Check out youtube cause vids exist.

The game is a giant expression of memory retention. The finer points require trial and error.

sometimes portals match doors, for example orcs from left door will go to left portal and so for the right door. keep an eye for blue beam, if it stuck into the barricade, orcs will smash it. try to reroute them or narrow they way to the portal
