where is the SAVE function? i keep losing my progressions

-I LOVED the game (I've loved ALL of Tonguc's games). Finished "Dead Tree", and unlocked the map (after picking the lock, in the cave) where I can fast-travel to all the circular-map locations. But I'd LOVE to know which of the fast-travel locations on the map gets me closest to the lovely location shown in the game's menu screen. I remember walking past this lit-shelter at a mid-or-later point in the game and would love to re-visit it. -Now that I've finished the game, I've heard there are some houses now...
