Availability in Japan on Steam?
I take it that when this turns up on Steam, it isn't going to be sold in Japan, right? Given that you IP block your site in Japan, this is pretty much a given isn't it....

I would guess that it is up to with 07th Expansion if they want to have it available on Steam in Japan since they are the original publisher. Since manga gamer is dealing with multiple publishers it is likely a contractual thing of them blocking japanese IPs full stop on their site - Steam being a bigger company can (and does) block games in certain regions easily.

Since you are in Japan I think it would be easier for you to find out if they know about the Steam Release - If they know about it - it is likely they are working with Steam to sort out them getting the publisher's cut from the Japanese sales.

Hello,

Kouryuu from MangaGamer here. The IP block on our website is primarily due to the laws in Japan surrounding pornographic content. Since most of the adult games on our website are uncensored and sample CGs of said uncensored content are available from our website, we cannot allow Japanese customers to view our website.

That said, Higurashi is an all-ages game. Making the English version available for Japanese Steam users is something we had not considered before, but I can ask some of our staff to look into it. At the very least, I imagine we will have to discuss that with Ryukishi/07th Expansion before the possibility can be considered.

No this was ages ago, but they'd have to give it to japan or the creator of the anime wouldnt give them rights to make the game
