The Legend

Alright. Let's get serious with this stuff here.

After a bit of looking, I folowed the video that was posted in the announcements section, regarding the 'About' page 'hidden link'. It doesn't exactly look that well hidden, as if someone wanted us to see it. A small black box in the bottom/center of the page brings you to . Sadly, due to the fact that Firefox doesn't want to play whatever it is that is on there with Quicktime, I can't see anything other than a big black box telling me I need Quicktime, and a small line at the bottom of the page that reads 'aHR0cDovL3d3dy5tZWRpYWZpcmUuY29tLz94dm1teWFtcjlybDM3Nmk=
bold in about'. (It should also be noted that the 'title' of the 'Help' page is YmUgYm9sZCBpbiBhYm91dC4gDQptYWtlIGEgSEFCSVQgb2YgaXQu)

From here on out, I am assuming you, the reader, are relatively informed of the theories regarding Slenderman, as well as the 'major' videos involving TribeTwelve, EveryManHYBRID, and MarbleHornets, and their connected theories and assumptions.

Going back to the About page, there are a number of letters spelling the word 'SIGMA' in bold scattered about the page. This gives credence to the 'Sigma Radiation' theory evident in the EveryManHYBRID series, as well as possibly denouncing the Tulpa Effect theory of Slenderman's powers and origin, and giving credence to the iteration theory, although it is not confirmed nor otherwise hinted at.

Using , I then decoded the two possible messages in the Base64 region. Yes, I know, it might be 'cheating', but I have no knowledge of codes or anything of the sort, so I'm using what tools I have. The first code (starting with aHR0) leads to a mediafire file: {LINK REMOVED} . Using 'sigma' in lowercase unlocks the text file, which reads simply:

'Tell me...

Add the l.'

Before investigating the text file code, I decided to look at the code of the 'Help' page 'title'. The code revealed a simple message titled 'be bold in about. make a HABIT of it.' - giving further evidence that the EveryManHYBRID lore is playing a part. Taking into consideration that also TribeTwelve met up with and intersected the lore of EveryManHYBRID, and the fact that the author of TribeTwelve met up with the lead developer of The Legend, as mentioned in an audio intervewe, these two are being considered cannon by the lore writers. Nothing so far that I've seen is pointing to a MarbleHornets approach, which makes me, personally, quite happy.

Anyways, onto the code within the text file. Simply copying and pasting the code reveals nothing in either HEX or Beta64. It would appear that there are four 5's, whereas there is '5ive' written and then 'Add the l' at the end. There is not a single 'l' in the code. Therefore, a 5 and l has been removed, from what I can see - although my assumption could be wrong. I've added a 5l to the beginning and end of the code in both Beta64 and HEX, but it doesn't look like anything more than gibberish. I'll see if I can do a bit more fiddling around...

And if this needs to be removed... Fine by me. I saw on another topic that people are allowed to post their findings, so...

Finally was able to get QuickTime running. It shows a video, heavily distorted, with mild scraping noises evident in the background. It had a message, reading, after a bit of pausing... 'I have not seen the ____ since he ruined my life... But I know that he has been in my room while I slept. I know and fear that one night I'll wake up to see him staring at me.' - This is a reference to The Rake, again present in EveryManHYBRID, as well as it's own original creepypasta.

Now onto the ARG's. The video regarding the distorted picture of the 'Reed' family had a simple message of 'Ly9Kb3NlcGggUmVlZA==', which translates as '//JosephReed', thus revealing most likely the name of the man in the picture.

The video //sleep had two messages: aHR0cDovL2JpdC5seS9PVFdxU2U= and a48cbb4cea40e939a6579b9c0ba1846c . The first one, when decoded in Beta64, led to {LINK REMOVED} - which was a comical 'Let me google that for you...' extension that then led me to an 'MD5 Encryption Tools' search. Finally, I'm able to decrypt the earlier undecypherable 'gibberish' messages. The one on this video, however, leads to {LINK REMOVED} - a shortened version of .

Now I can look at the earlier message from my first post: c75ba1a4727405779391a5ae4577ac20, which translates into - a simple text-based 'drawing' of Slenderman, with *REDACTED* listed underneath. Which kind of ticks me off, because that fits into none of the decryption techniques that I've been given. Grr. xD

Back and ready for a bit more delving. Sorry, had a bit of a headache, needed to get some air.

The last ARG that I took a look at was //walk - Ironic, seeing as how we just discovered run. After copying the code listed within the video - aHR0cDovL2dvby5nbC9tVDA0NA== - It decoded as {LINK REMOVED} - which, when put into the web adress bar, came up with this image: . It is a note adressed to 'UGxheWVy', and appears to be from within the game itself. Ironic yet again, it decodes as 'Player'...

I seem to have it a wall, with the numbers *REDACTED* being all that's left. On a whim, I looked them up on Google, and found them to be an IP adress. Finding the location, I found it was my own IP adress - or, at least my neighbor's.

He knows where I am. He knows that I know. Only a matter of time now.

Well, I'm stumped and out of milk, so it's off to the gas station for me. Considering the theory that the more you know of Slenderman, the more of a target you are, it was only a matter of time before /he/ gets to me. And you can't exactly face death in the nonexistant face without a good supply of milk. You really want to die with dry cereal for breakfast?

Anyways, only things I have left to go on is //JosephReed and //4191 - which could simply be 1914, a date of birth/death/significance, although I'm leaning towards death. The problem is that there is more than one Joseph Reed, all of them with very little information other than birth/death dates, wives names, and often creepy tombstone inscriptions (Like Joseph L. Reed's 'We Shall Meet Again' - ). If anyone can find anything on Joseph Reed and 4191/1914... Post it here. Or somewhere. I'm a bit stumped.

For some reason Slenderman has a liking of Quicktime that I don't share. Turns out there was an audio file that was in the 'Run' page on the website. After saving the page to my hard drive and playing it through Quicktime, it sounds like a heavily distorted voice speaking. Honestly quite unnerving. I'll see if I can find a way to clear it up or play it backwards or see if I can find /something/ throughout the garbled mess. I'm not the best with audio files; is there someone out there who'd like to help?
Cerce Feb 13, 2013 @ 3:50pm
It sounds... 'better' when played backwards. I still can't clear it up.

Also, after doing a bit of research, there seems to be a re-occuringly mentioned Villisca Axe Murder event, where Joseph /Moore/ and his family were brutally killed, and a concerned citizen with the last name Reed (first name mentioned only as [Illegible], eerilly enough) later attempted to bring the killer to justice by informing local authorities. Although nothing much more is mentioned of Reed, this seems to be the only event during or around the time of 1914 where a murder occurred. It should also be noted that the killer may not have been found, according to this website:

Should we make a topic just for the audio file?
Cerce Feb 16, 2013 @ 5:52am
I'm not quite sure.. I don't think it really has much to offer, except maybe a quick blurb about something inside of the game. I don't think there's much more when it comes to uncovering codes and hidden messages and the like. Perhaps there is something. I dunno. We could make a new topic, if you'd like, I suppose.
Cerce Mar 12, 2013 @ 9:17pm
I've been sick for a number of days. No, I don't think it's Slender Sickness or what have you, but ya never can be too sure :P Went to the clinic, I'm all good, save a bit of a throat infection or somesuch.

Anyways - it looks like I've missed something in the //sleep video... I forgot to mention that there is a distorted code at the end in beta6 that simply directs to the moddb page for The Legend.

Also... there is a very small beta6 that leads to '' - I warn you, clicking on that link may give the Slender Man your location, as the numbers at the bottom of the page are your specific IP adress.

There seems to be nothing else that I can find given my tools - unless there is audio file clues or hints (or even 'traps' like the /run page)... I'm not quite sure.

On a whim, I decided to replace /run in the web adress with some words like /hide, /see, and /look, but otherwise I haven't come up with any further hidden messages.

Wow-that is all I can say! I would never think to delve so hard into something like you have! I give you mad props for doing so, (and to the devs for putting the messages there) and I look forward to reading anything else you discover hidden in the game/trailers/etc. :)
Cerce May 21, 2013 @ 6:05pm
Thanks; I kinda just decided to sit down and do it one day. Took most of the day and late into the night, plus also some help with a good friend of mine (thanks Gecko; you know who you are). The only things I haven't been able to really 'decipher' were the bits and pieces of sound on the occasional websites and videos. Also - a few links were removed because Steam for some reason thinks I'm a spamming bot or somethin'. *Shrug* Anyways - I've taken a look through the new teaser, and it doesn't look like much. I've sifted through the various videos both on AustinHand's channel on Youtube and the channels of a few of the developers that I was able to find on YouTube; nothing really comes up that I haven't been able to find yet.

Also, a possible code of 'XL081205' may come into play, although I'm not quite sure how that could be deciphered, or what relevence it has. It's on the //4919 video containing the photograph of the Reed couple that has their faces slowly change and distort throughout the video, as well as in a short shot on the newest teaser. Only thing left really is if there are obscure references on the developer's twitter messages or something. I honestly loathe Twitter, but I guess it's the only place left besides sifting through sounds from the videos/websites and trying to put more words like /run or /walk after the legend's website address. Or maybe there's something new. Perhaps the devs made a new puzzle and I'm just not saying anything because I want someone else to have a bit of fun.

Or maybe I'm just a jerk hoping people get lost on a wild goose chase for some clue that isn't there so that I can laugh at them :P

EDIT: Also some things that haven't been 'solved' were the odd one-word lines in the unlocked text file.

Add the l

It never came into play with anything I did; unless it's saying that the infamous and honestly creepy gives /him/ your directions. But what 'Add the l' means, or 5ive, I haven't a clue.

... I missed one.

The video //days, which can be found at , happens to have something in the video description, which translated - according to YouTuber MrUnicornMassacre - as:

Feelings of confinement.

Paranoia. He is always watching.

This is just the beginning.

The Operator is here.

There is also a blurb at the end of the video, which looks to be:

(Distortion's a helluva pain, even at 720p on a YouTube video)

It translates as - which doesn't exist as a mod any longer, it would look like. It should also be noted that the sounds in that video are greatly distorted and honestly goosebump-worthy. Also, after a bit of digging, turns out that Slender - Source is another 'name' for Faceless...

... Wait, Faceless? What? O.o

For those of you that don't know, Faceless is another (some would say 'rival') co-op Slender game in development at the moment. On April 3rd, 2013, it would seem that a member of the Faceless team approached Christian Retena, attempting to get help for Faceless, stating that they 'No longer have a team for Faceless...'. Elder Productions replied simply with a 'Don't take my team' message. Now, I'm not sure what the relationship between these two producers are, but considering that this video was made as a nice little plug to another, similar developer back in Sept. of 2012...? I honestly don't know. *Shrug*

BUT - this is relatively important, as this could lead to an intersecting of lore between Faceless and The Legend. Therefore, if this video is cannon to both games, then both games would have the same cannon, right? Or are we using conflicting cannon and just shameless plugs to friends on other games? So confused... I'm probably looking too much into it.
Cerce May 21, 2013 @ 9:45pm
Turns out it's a video predating Zedd's employment to help with The Legend, while he was still attempting to join Faceless's group, and the video was made for Faceless while he was trying to join. He continued the // video 'series' after he joined The Legend.
trinitylynne98 May 22, 2013 @ 7:47am
That is SO cool, and it's even more cool that you noticed all these subtle things, and figured it out! :) I would have never noticed!
