Publishing deal, we signed one
As some of you may know by now (or may have guessed by our slightly cryptic messages over the past couple of months), we have just signed a publishing/partnership deal with Focus Home Interactive, a French publisher, to bring Contrast to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC at the end of the year!

Signing this deal is, in no small part, thanks to your on-going support. Without Greenlight, we simply wouldn't have the game we have today (your feedback and enthusiasm has significantly affected how we developed the game), so we have you to thank for this success, and we will keep ourselves directly involved with you guys, just as we did before.

This publishing deal is a really good situation, believe it or not (contrary to other deals we've been offered in the past). Contrast is basically done at this point - the game is completely playable, all the art is in, etc, and we're just refining some of the puzzles, smoothing over its rough edges, and optimizing it for both PC and consoles. We have retained complete creative control over the game and the IP. We also have more time to refine the game, meaning that we're in the fortunate position of being able to fix a few things we didn't think we'd be able to (not a lot of developers ever get this opportunity!).

The guys and girls at Focus are incredibly enthusiastic about Contrast, and will be helping us market and distribute the game. They have a great media presence (particularly in Europe, which is an area we haven't been able to reach on our own), meaning that we will be able to reach out to a wider audience. They also have significant production experience, so can point out areas of improvement that we might have missed. We're really excited about what they can bring to the table.

So, there is a downside, in that we'll have to wait a bit longer for release. This is bad for us, because we remain stuck in the dodgy factory until people can buy Contrast. And, while we know that you guys have been waiting for Contrast for some time, we think that a wider release will allow us to do the best possible job and, hopefully, put us in a position to make another great game after this one :)

P.S. Just because I like to make bets, I think that this relationship is an example of how a lot of indie publishing deals will go down in the future - marketing/distribution and console support, rather than "evil empire funding". Interesting stuff.

Haha, just kidding. Glad to hear you guys got a good publishing deal. Sorry to hear we'll be waiting even longer for this awesome game. But I understand it's the cost of doing business and whatnot. As long as you guys are happy with the game at the end of the day that's all that matters. Also hope you made a nice chunk of change as well. So many congrats from one of your biggest fans.

Question: Now that you've got backing from a publisher will that effect the initial pricing of the game? I remember asking one of you guys at PAX East and was told an initial figure (under $20) will having a publisher like Focus effect things like pricing?

Best be on steam first and not another Console first deal. Im tired of supporting things from the pc only to find out its comming out on Consoles for the first year and than PC later. Yes i own both major consoles but play everything now on steam. Anyway. Great game concept and cant wait to play. I will also be purchasing as a gift for family and friends on steam.

Good question re pricing - it shouldn't be affected. We like where it is right now.

We understand that - we want it to come out simultaneously, and can confirm that it won't be PS3 or Xbox 360 exclusive.

the one Greenlight game I'm waiting for. Although it sucks about the pushback it's at least nice to know the game is ready.
