Help us translate Steam

1) Will it be possible to play the game in original Japanese?
2) Will there be steam achievements?
1) We're aiming for having the original Japanese included, there are some engine issues that we have to work out.
2) Undecided.
That said, cards don't have to be characters, they can also be locations or objects. You could also have a card for the hospital, 7F, the notable cars, the maps, etc.
Are there people that only care about achievements so they can stroke their e-peen?
Sure.
Are those the ONLY type of people that care about achievements and their only purpose?
No.
It should be obvious to anyone with half a brain. Achievements are literally game content. Extra game content that can extend the life of a game by providing extra challenges or ways of playing that you normally might never had done with it wasn't provided to you as a goal (in the form of achievements) by devs.
Not only are achievements extra game content that can extend game life, but they do so without taking up lots of dev time and/or thus money to make. Simply put it is quick, easy, and useful extra game content. They don't hurt anything and since they take little effort to make there is no reason to add them.
And despite the above alone, being sufficient reason to have achievements in games, that is not the only reason achievements are nice. Achievements are also a means of communication and record keeping. For example, perhaps I am curious if a steam friend of mine has even beaten a certain level in a game, if I check their steam achievements I can find out if they really have beaten that level without having to directly talk to them or by simply taking "their word for it".
So, again, simply put, achievements are extra content that can be done easily and cheaply by game devs, meanwhile they also provide gamers with record keeping and gaming communication.
Even more simply put, achievements are "fun little treats". And last time I checked, video games are supposed to be able having fun.
I could sort of see why a game like Cookie Clicker[orteil.dashnet.org] could become so popular in the span of months, simply because it has a huge amount of content in the form of achievements and upgrades. I just don't get it, maybe Cookie Clicker is a contemporary masterpiece of gaming in the making because it captured that core essence of modern video games so perfectly and my old, web-strung, cranky brain is just not getting it.
Amen to that. I do get the argument on why games should have achievements and his argument certainly rings true, but I take issue with classifying Narcissu as a game. I mean, it's a book really. Having are getting achievements for reading a book is frankly kind of tacky in my opinion. Collecting CGs are achievement enough for me at least in reading VNs lol. Besides, for a novel like Narcissu it's better to just ask a friend how far they've gotten rather than just looking up their profile to see how far they've gotten, as it promote discussion on your thoughts and feelings on what you've read, which is especially important for something like Narcissu.
