Recursive symlinks?
I don't see it addressed anywhere specifically, and I'm sorry if I missed it. But what about symlinks in Linux, OSX, and Windows? Sometimes folders are symlinked to folders that contain the original symlink making them recursive. Is there something to safeguard against this? Symlinked folders don't have an extension but instead rely upon magic numbers.

Just curious. Also, if it's possible to still chip in to get in on the alpha, please let me know. :D

I think you can make a safeguard for this by checking where the path has led in absolute positions. E.g. if /etc/share/thingy/config/symlink leads to /etc/share/thingy they could make you travel back to that room.

It would make the game pretty easy to cheat. Just put a symlink to one of the furthest folders on your system, and you're there.
