Possible DM Support?
I know this mod focuses on CTF, and for Deathmatch, you have Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, but HL2DM has gone into such a state of disrepair and neglect from Valve over the years that it's reached a point of near unplayability. I could bring up pages upon pages of issues with it.

So, I was wondering, is it possible to add support for a Deathmatch game mode here? It would be nice to be able to run HL2DM Maps and Free-for-all in a much more well-maintained environment than what Valve can seem to handle. Aside from that, the extended features of HL2CTF, such as the new weapons and whatnot could be used in new maps, which would be pretty sweet.

But then it wouldn't be CTF. I hear ya though. I've wondered about that too. At the moment I'm seriously considering developing under Garry's mod for a HL2DM replacement but I'm concerned about the cheaters.

HL2CTF 2.1 has DM mode already. We do not see us removing this in the future version of the mod. The reason you probably have not seen HL2CTF:DM mode is that most server admins do not run it. The mode is setup so the scores normally displayed as team flag captures instead displays team kills, and of course the full compliment of weapons is available.

Now that we have worked out that the Steampipe server setup solved the validation errors, anyone can setup a normal HL2CTF server and run a server in DM mode by loading HL2:DM maps.

Interesting. I didn't realize you could load up hl2dm maps. Now I have to find a Windows box. Grrr.

By the way, hope you don't mind me asking... at what stage is the development of HL2CTF 3.0?

I believe we can be confident in saying the porting from the 2006 - 2013 SDK is 90% complete and the Steamworks implementation (achievements) is functioning. We are looking to have internal playtests next week which will begin the bulk of all the minor update work to the assets and then we can start digging in on debugging. It has been pretty rough porting the entire game but we're lucky in that 2.1 is bug-free which means we're not porting any bugs. :)

Will you be looking for playtesters? I'd love to participate if at all possible. BTW, Thanks for responding! Not often I see mod teams that speak with the community so promptly, and in a friendly manner.

We have a closed beta coming very soon and it will be tested under a closed playtest of which we have a rather healthy number of testers. As we progress a public invite playtest will be announced, so you can look forward to that.

Just to note, our plans changed just a bit and we're going to announce a public playtest of the first port to the 2013 SDK. Keep an eye on the announcements for details.
