More Jrpgs need to be on pc
I figured id start this topic here. As pc gamers and for the love of jrpgs that we have the pc seems to have a lack for them. I don't see any reason as to why more developers don't port there games over. It's not like theres not a lot of demand for jrpgs on the pc. On windows 8 i bought the $15 spectral souls. My point being dvelopers need to follow in ghostlights foots
steps and bring us hours of level grinding fun ^__^

so true but well... "Marketing" seems to think that we are too dumb to enjoy something from another culture/language... Even on console, we are "too dumb" to deserve the original voice acting (why bother with expensive crappy dubbing that almost no fan want ?)

I think its more the fact that AFAIK the PC isn't that popular when it comes to RPGS in Japan. It seems to be considered mostly a platform for VN's or something, IDK.
Also, forgive me if I come across as rude or snappish, but I gotta disagree with the voice acting part:
1. Everyone does NOT enjoy JP voice acting, and much prefers hearing voices in a language they understand. I won't say whether its a majority or not, because no clue lol.
2. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't they have some kind of strict rule when it comes to voice acting in Japan? Don't remember it exactly, but it makes it difficult for peeps to include JP voices, either that or its additional costs or something.
Also, keep an open mind, voice acting has been getting a LOT better as of late :3~!

I don't believe the problem Specifically stems there.

The real problem is. Is that most of your JRPG, come from.... well.. Japan.
Once the PS2 and the PS3 started getting to the point where not -every- computer was better than they were. It started getting easier for companies/developers to start going Sony, Cause it was a quick 'potent' answer.

So when things start going else, You tend to see more of these on the PS3 or PS2 than the PC or Xbox, Simply because the ps3 is a one stop shop, and then the requirements are met.
They don't have to scale anything in terms of quality, or limit out anyone, cause of price.
a 300$ computer may not be able to play all or any of the ps3 titles.
Lets see.. 350$ for new red GoW Ascension ps3 that comes with saga and ascension.
300$ and they can do the ACIII one
260ish otherwise. For something that can handle stuff like skyrim and the like.
Sometimes You're lucky if the 300$ computer has the graphic quality to run Diablo II.
Its getting better with these APUs where you get a decent bit more graphic and processor quality for the buck. without having to assemble anything.... but. yeah.
This is where more are choosing to console than pc.
PC CAN do everything a console can do, Its not a guarantee.

-that- is where the notion that "Marketing" would say "easier to ship on Ps3 than pc"
maybe,.

@Eclipse: I'm not a native english speaker (French), so that argument is irrelevant in non-English countries, not many of my "co speakers" understand spoken English. And French dubs are REALLY horrible (anime, tv series, games, everything is lame). But another thing, I wouldn't complain if we had the CHOICE, but we don't...

Oh, you meant French dubs, sorry! I thought you meant english ones, which IMHO I find to be getting better lately :V
welp, no clue what to say then I'm afraid.
Vashe 4. apr 2013 kl. 6:06am
No I originaly meant English dubs as well. I just said that English dubs (in 75% of the games, even here) are not understood by the majority of the players as well as japanese dubs off course. So there is no argument to remove Japanese ones to add English ones. But I really never thought about voice acting rights... :/
DesmaX 4. apr 2013 kl. 7:53am
This game has japanese only dubs, so I don't think it will be a problem for you

As long as the female english voice actors can't get rid of trying to imitate the ultra cute female japanese voice acting I disagree. Every time I hear them trying to imitate that the dub is ruined for me. No excuses. I just can't bear that. We can talk again when the voice actresses learned to talk normal. Until then I will always say: English dubs suck.

Tell that 5pb. I'm still mad because they denied Steins;Gate being released on steam. Everything was set. It would've been the perfect opportunity to make that genre known in he west. It was the best opportunity you could whish for if you want your VN be released in the west. And then they got scared and said no.

I havent played this because im strictly pc only, would completely love it on pc and that goes for many other games, hopefully it'll pass but games like this are hitting a lot of biased views and comments walls. Like with several other games like this on greenlight, if you dont like it fine dont just spout random ♥♥♥♥ about it based on shallow views and the games general genre.

To the voices i personally perfer japanese voice acting cause it just flows more smoothly for me i mean honestly some of the words when translated into english just dont work at all -.- and i agree english dubbing while trying to imitate the japanese voices (this includes males, animals and unknown genders) just doesnt work. I mean i guess anime wouldnt be anime much anymore if they make it completely normal english speech but their failed attempts just make it worse.
Edit: first time commenting, did not know they blocked words with hearts

I'd like to see more JRPG's on Steam, but this doesn't look like the right type. I guess if it gets on here and paves the way for other's to be released on Steam, then that's fine.
hesho89 4. apr 2013 kl. 5:46pm
i always thought recettear opened the door for more jrpgs onto steam. hopefully, this will help too then if/when it gets greenlight.
remisot 4. apr 2013 kl. 5:56pm
I would love to play Growlanser, Legend of heroes and tons of series of this kind on my computer without havin' to search for emulator settings for hours or ripping the games. And i don't care if the voice acting is english or japanese, as long as they're not in french (cause as someone said earlier, we really have some pretty bad actors for that in general).

Agreed. People may argue that Japanese RPGs don't belong on the PC, since their 'real name' is "console style role playing game". Thus if they are "console style role playing games they belong on the console."

However, Western, PC RPGs have very much found their way to consoles. The lines between console and and PC gaming have blurred tremendously in recent years. Handhelds and phones are flooded with RPGs. Consoles are running Android. Console emulators have been popular for over a decade for reasons other than piracy(I believe Gabe Newell's statement about piracy as a "service problem" is very relevant to the issue of vast emulator popularity). New consoles are abandoing Power achitecture for x86, the same achitecture you run PC Steam games on. Console style video games are becoming more and more common on the PC thanks to the indie development community. Most PC games are being developed for controllers as well as keyboard and mouse.

So there is no reason console style role playing games, or "jRPGs", do not have a place on the PC. And considering that the PC is undergoing such a revival right now, while attitudes towards console gaming are teetry right now. We have a very shaky eighth generation right now with a poorly selling Wii U and a weak PlayStation 4. This is a perfect time for Japanese role playing games to make their way to the PC. As well as all console friendly genres of game.

Personally, I would love to see franchises like Shin Megami Tensei and Tales. Having something like Persona 5 or Tales of Xillia would be great games to have on Steam. Or older titles like Tales of Symphonia and Persona 4, as well. There was apparently talks of Catherine coming to the PC, I feel it was a mistake not to bring it. As well it wouldn't hurt to have franchises like Disgaea on Steam. Disgea is on so many other platforms. Perhaps if ClaDun x2 does well enough to Steam they'll bring it.

Games like Valkyria Chronicles or Ni no Kuni would also be a welcome addiction. This game being here is a start. And I only hope that it is only the beginning.

Not really because PC Gaming died in Japan a long time ago. While the genre is slowly starting to gain popularity on Steam thanks to Carpe Fulgur and Xseed, it still has a long way to go until japanese developers take notice about it. Sure, inititives like this are really nice, but I don't think most popular games (Like Persona of Tales) are going to stop being consoles exclusive... But Xseed could just release Trails in the Sky on Steam already, played it on the PSP and it's amazing, that game could help the genre become more popular on Steam.

Oh, and Monolith Soft is a Nintendo First Party.
