Too much a rip off of Game Dev Story Part 2
Starting this thread to simply refute what you said in your final post on the thread you closed...Go ahead and close this one too, because I'm just going to say this and then not bother with you anymore.

You said:
Sadly 'This is a rip-off, hence I can play the game for free' is just another excuse pirates use to justify that they can play the game for free.

I, and no one else in that thread, EVER said that or anything like it. In fact, instead I, and others who agreed with me, are trying to challenge you to make your effort better, and to differentiate it enough so you can truly say your game becomes more unique and can stand on its own right.

You said:
We have always said GDS was our inspiration

THIS is a BLATANT lie, you only said that and acknowledged it after you were called out on it by the gaming press and many others.

You said:
Also, as I said before look up what 'rip-off', 'carbon copy' or 'clone' actually means and you see that those words are just used as a derogatory term to try to drag our game and our name down. They have no factual basis.

And then you went on to describe just a handful of the ways your game IS in fact exactly cloning many of the mechanics of GDS.

I am not, nor was anyone else in that other thread, trying to drag your name through the mud, but I'm trying to point out that you should improve your game and focus on making it more of a differentiated title that justifies your "inspired by" claim and lives up to your goal. You and I both know you rushed this title out to take advantage of your (very clever) piracy gimmick, knowing the free PR it would give you. You would have benefited A LOT more from that free PR had you waited and put out a game that was more worthy of it, and much more fleshed out and differentiated from GDS than your title is right now.

good luck, and I hope you take the constructive criticism and do something with it.

Respond if you like, I suspect you're close this thread though.

Where is your proof??? This statement, as many others you made, is based on nothing but your own assumptions.

The earliest interview we did was in December 2012(!), and what was the first thing we said?

http://leviathyn.com/games/pc/2012/12/04/interview-greenheart-games-about-their-upcoming-sim-game-dev-tycoon/

We said that our game was inspired by GDS. Our About page has also stated this for a long time.

> And then you went on to describe just a handful of the ways your game IS in fact exactly cloning many of the mechanics of GDS.

Your definition of 'exactly' seems to be 'is similar' and your assumptions that we 'cloned' anything is simply an assumption.

The rest of your arguments are also based on uninformed assumptions. We never 'rushed the game out'. In fact the game was released in December 2012 and the April release of the Windows, Mac and Linux version was as planned and had nothing to do with any PR conspiracy you might want to believe in.

Finally, if anyone wants to discuss this topic on a factual and approachable level I have no issues with this but from the previous topics it's clear that this usually ends up the same: With uninformed claims and name calling.

I've played Game Dev Story and I found it was a neat little game to pass the time, it is nowhere near as polished and fun as Game Dev Tycoon. It doesn't matter if they are similar to me, it doesn't change that I find Game Dev Tycoon funner.

Looking forward to Steam release, bought the game today.

I have to agree with Xok.

Okay, those games might be "too" similar" BUT! What if i don't have a smartphone? Like i currently don't have one? I can't play GDS. Also, i think GDS feels like a cheap Beta Version while GDT is a clean polished game, running on my PC and my Notebook, so i can play it wherever i want.

I bought the game a few weeks ago and i have to say, i love it and can't wait for its steam release so i can stop playing it as a "Non-Steam-Game"

And to greenheartgames? You rock! Keep it up! I love the game and you and i am looking forward to see more from you. Patches, Updates and so on for GDT and other Games.

I've played Game Dev Story quite some time ago. It was quite good but it was missing those factors that Game Development Tycoon fills in and more. Being one of those first 200-300 to actually buy the game on release, I can safely say that this game is no mere clone or whatever you logicless idiots are spewing. It's like saying every FPS game is a clone because they all have the mechanics of guns and shooting at some sort of an enemy. That is plain and simply ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

In conclusion to this, I would like to point out that the Game Dev Story that many have played on IOS devices is a mere port of the original game from 1999. It's not any new or innovative that has been released recently from which Devs from other games copy from., Its over 10 years old ffs. I guess according to certain people's way of thinking, all adventure games are mere copies of super mario for the SNES. Or that Forza 5 will be a copy of Atari's Space race from the 1970s and Namco's rally x from the 1980s? That's some master race logic right there...

Yeah, it's a ripoff of GDS in the sense that every platformer is a ripoff of Mario. It might be the same genre, but GDT has much more complex and polished ideas, such as creating your own engine, while GDS was basically just you leveling up your staff until it's almost impossible to make a bad game, even if you tried. I like GDS, but GDT took the basic idea and greatly improved upon it, so I don't really care if they're similiar.

true story bro, gds is just a casual game for smarphones, while gdt is more a complex big brother of this game for pc with a bit more realistic factors, which makes it more different to gds.
as i read it on greenheartgames blog right( am i right here?), gdt will get more features in the near future so it will get more expanded than it is now. so i think not that this game is a clone like jalandar said.

I've played GDS and honestly I think your game has more content. :P
ThePenguinGentleman 27. maj 2013 kl. 8:57am
Does it even matter if GDT is an exact clone? (Not that I'm saying it is.) If people want to buy it, then so what? I'm going to buy it no matter how similiar to GDS it is, because its a good game in its own right. I look forward to the Steam release, GreenHeartGames.

I played the demo and I love this game. The fact that this person is complaining so much is pathetic, and most likely for attention. I can't believe that anyone would hate you guys Greenheart.

Greeheartgames, please ignore these type of threads and keep up with your hard work.

I think it's important to address the issues. That said, I haven't played it yet and don't know how much I can upgrade hardware and how long I can play for (IE 30 In game years or so). It might be nice to feature an 'end game' portion where companies are still producing new consoles and the like.

Regarding the smartphone part, I highly doubt most steam users would really want to bother with most iOS games, when there are quite an amount of games on PC or other platforms of higher quality.

I love your game Greenheart Games, and I plan on following it, buying it, and playing it after burning three hours playing the demo of your addicting fun game that is GDT. Pay people like this no mind, your game is great.
