Landing on Planets
This is something of a problem - not to do - but to do well... right now we're not intending to do planetary landing in the first release - but what's the preference for you?

Would you like to land on planets, even if it's pretty sparse and basically a pretty heightmap? Perhaps with a landing-pad/base or other few notable scenery items?

Or would you want what we want, which is a fully populated breathing world with trees, animals, buildings and mega-cities? This can be achieved procedurally to a degree - but it's not in our current initial release plan and slated for the next major release.

So - what would you prefer?

A) Skip landing, do it properly on the next release.
B) Gimme planet landing, now, I don't care about trees.

Seems A) is the clear winner to me :) My preferred option - so that's good to hear!

A! and this could be epic for an mmo.. like quests on the ground and having control of a character as well as a spaceship

Cheers Leprekhaun - great suggestion :) Yes, Dominion will grow to become an MMO (after we get it launched, and when it proves popular).

The single-player release is intended to be the starting point for something much much larger. The best way to visualise what we want is "GTA in Space" - from the point of view of go anywhere, do anything, when you want.

Travelling across the galaxy and landing on a new world, get out, explore on foot - find artifacts no-one knows about, steal someone's ship (if that's your thing) and then fly somewhere else.

That's a very grandiose aim of course! We can only get there over time, and with a lot of help! So we want to build things slow but sure - starting with the single-player experience, then who knows where we'll end up ;)
