Mortal Online: The Awakening

My Mortal Online Review
Hello. I'm Revir. I've been playing Mortal Online since the beggining of the beta. The game has much to offer. In the way of activities to do, and also, in bugs. Yes I said it, bugs.

From my indepth experience with the game I can say that Mortal Online is a passion project by a few good guys that are making the game not only they want, but that they know many people will want. It has been a very hard and tasking project for Star Vault. Like any new company, they have made mistakes, and had major setbacks. The game is not the most polished, or the best graphically, but they are prevailing though.

Now on to my review.

Mortal Online has things to offer from PVE, to PVP, Crafting, Taming, Alchemy, Metallurg, Territory control, House building, dungeons, mysterious quests and more. Almost all items in the game are player crafted, any item that can be obtained can also be player crafted with the exclusion of skill books that allow players to obtain skills through the reading of a book. Players really control things in the world here, like towns and territory. Deciding what areas are safe or not.

The world is truly based off player skill, from players having to AIM there attacks to figuring out the best method of accomplishing a task. Players ability to plan and react is one of the most interesting aspects of Mortal Online.

Skills are learned by doing for the most part. With hundreds of skills to do many things from taming creatues and controlling them to picking locks. Players can build characters of many different varieties as well with no restrictions on skills for any race.

For instance a player can easily make a character that can tame animals, which can be sold on the broker or by yelling in towns, that can also fight and skin the animals, heal himself, even use some magic. If you learn the in's and outs of the game, you can build very special characters capable of doing very useful versitile activities to acheive your goals.

Players have the freedom to do as they please. You can sit around chatting in town, or exploring dungeons with AI that is not to far off from AI of Elder Scrolls: Skyrim at this point in the games development (Dec 18th 2012). You can explore the world, unearth hidden treasures, find hidden caves and quests that no one knows about.

Quests in Mortal Online are not like quests from WoW or similar games, but secrets hidden in mystery that players must resolve to complete.

The events in Mortal online are unlike anything in any other game, with dynamic mechanics that respond to player interation. With mobs invading the terrain unless players can hold them off players truly feel that there actions have an effect on the world.

Literally an invasion of Orcs(risars in MO) attacked our fortress and nearly destroyed it had we not intervened.

Mortal Online has MUCH to offer to those who will actually look for it.

This game will not hold your hand. This game will not help you. This game will make you angry. But you will love it if you love freedom, if you love CHOICE, if you love SPARTA!!! I mean.. Oops got side tracked there. If you love the option to do as you please, when you please.

I have left this game a number of times, and I cannot stop coming back. Just sayin.

Thanks for reading my review.

That's a bit of overstatement. While the developers are fans of UO themselves, I would not agree that they succeeded at capturing the essence of UO.

All those things are part of the game, and I said it was full of bugs in the beginning. And I told them they'd get mad. What else do you want from me? To go in depth in all the bugs and stuff? That'd be too long. But I'm not gonna outright LIE to these people and tell them there is no fun to be had either.

I think I gave a fair review of a game I enjoy. I didnt give my full opinion cuz that'd be like 7 pages. I didn't post dupe vids or anything. What I did was tell them exactly what the game DOES have to offer, and gave them a slight idea that is not polished. Just because you didnt like the game, isn't a reason to go and troll someones review that isn't biased at all but just accurate.

Good review, but the events bit is a bit misleading I thought. The implication that I'm getting is that they're automated, like a better version of GW2's/RIFT's/WAR's Dynamic Events/Invasions/Public Quests. Whereas they're the opposite, they're entirely GM created and controlled which is arguably a much better system as it can lead to truly unique and creative events unlike those of the MMOs mentioned previously which are just pre-scripted repeatable ones.

I played MO for a really long time, honestly, I wouldn't tell anyone to buy it, but I think that everyone should at least give it a shot.

Firstly, I play MO for more than 2 years with pauses. To be honest, only after awakening and critical patching this game become fluently playable with fair list of features and smooth UI, finally game is ready for larger public. Simply, I play this game because it is enjoyable, bugs are not that severe that it can nearly break a game for me, and currently no other MMO could offer me versatile experience that MO can provide.

Review is fair, Revir warned people about bugs, although part about in game events is overhyped. MO supports large scale events, but they are not automated yet, not so often, and they must be run by GMs. It seems SV makes preparations for these events be more automated.

You won't find today on a market modern 3D FPV open world MMO that has so much sandbox features as MO. I would certainly recommend this game to all true Sandbox fans that can put with some non gamebraking bugs, and a harsh and sometimes unforgiving world of MO.

2.5 years after RELEASE, game is still a mess and they are now asking for donations to add content. Simply Google the company. There is a reason their stock is worth 7/10 of a cent last time I looked.

As someone who's followed the game so closely for years, Slapshot, you know that we don't ask for donations. The community asked for the ability to donate, and we use any donations we have to add new content with additional freelance workers. Donation money allows us to add more content, but we're always adding content and fixes regardless.

The game is pretty amazing, and if my friend joins me I will be coming back now and going on true adventures.
