There are a lot of CV's where the only means of access when it's landed on a planet is with a SV. The doors are way up there and even your jetpack can't boost you high enough. An elevator beam would allow us to access those doors without having to build ugly structures onto it. Allow us to turn them on or off so we can have them active only when we land.
They would also be cool in bases too. If you use the existing elevator blocks for multi-floors, it becomes a PITA to position yourself up/down just right to leave the elevator. You can bet you overshoot or undershoot and have to micro adjust your position because the horizontal bars leave only just enough space to exit. With a beam, there is nothing to impede your movement.
Actually, I would have preferred the elevator blocks to be U shaped so we can rotate it to leave the open side of it facing the exit so there's no horizontal bar to stop you moving forward.
