When is the next game design 48 Hour Challenge?
A friend told me that STeam Greenlight does game design 48 Hour challenges. IS that true? If so where could I sign up?

I've certainly never heard of such a thing.
Although Alden would surely recommend a few, particularly http://www.ludumdare.com/

Your friend is incorrect. Steam doesn't do anything like that. There are games in Greenlight that were previously part of such challenges elsewhere, but that's about the closest connection there is.

e.g. McPixel, a finalist in Ludum Dare a while ago, put together in a little over 36 hours and left mostly as-is to retain the magic that brought it the "Most Entertaining" prize.
