Visual Novels
How would people feel about Visual Novels making their way onto Steam via Greenlight? JAST has already joked about their translated VNs appearing on Steam before and distribution through Steam is a great way to spread the word and allow for more obscure titles to receive translations.

Well I suppose if they're submitted and get voted up then you'd have your answer? That's the point of the system isn't it?

I wonder just how deep you've went down the rabbit hole?

Yeah sure, but only if we can get the entire Rance series.

There are already Visual Novels on Steam (look up Hanako Games or Analogue: A Hate Story)

Best way to drum up the interest is to make threads about it.

Yeah there are some, but not many. It would be interesting to get official translations of VNs for once.

steam doesn't like porn games even if the porn scenes were ripped

Inb4 katawa shoujo promo items for Tf2, only on steam for 7.99$

And it's things like that that stop titles like Fate/Stay Night from ever getting (officially) translated.

Sure, if they're good. There already are some VN on Steam, very few though. But I can see some VN getting onto Steam. I'm a fan of the genre and would support a few I know getting on the service if the developers decided to try and submit it.

It's a common misconception that Visual Novels need to contain porn and most that do, that aren't classed as "eroge", have options to turn said scenes off, some are lucky enough to not even need porn such as Ever 17.

The reason VN aren't on steam are because they're not game. Greenlight won't help them get on steam. although if it has some type of interactivity/gameplay it might get on like Analogue but i wouldn't expect much

I think thats a great idea. We only have things like Portal 2: The Final Hours.

Except there's already a few VNs on Steam. Just because they're simple compared to, well, any other game, doesn't make them not games. Never mind the ones like Rance that are actually games.

I would love a few to make it onto Steam, I played Analogue and I've seen quite a few on Youtube and things, they looked really good.
If people could get some companies to respond and try to use this service, I think it would get them a lot more recognition in the West, as it would open them up for a wider audience.
Speaking of this I actually E-mailed Key Visual Arts about it yesterday, I don't know if I will get a response but even if I don't, if enough people tried to contact these sorts of companies it should result in something, a response at the least.
